When this book appeared in an Art Book Catalog I ordered a copy to add to a collection of teaching tools. This slim volumn, first offered in German then translated into English in Australia looses nothing when moving from hand to hand. Indeed it is a handy resource for those interested in the application of techniques from very ancient plying to complex weaves. The list of contents is user friendly, clear and concise. Drawings to show processes and color illustrations are bold and dynamic. The basic steps in the creation of threads, mesh fabrics, knots and fabric are excellent. While not a complete compendium of all possible techniques in a given area, nonetheless it is a remarkable reference. Warping, plaiting, borders and beadwork are included. Some seventy pages are dedicated to Reference and Bibliography for further study.Since I am interested in the historic development of fiber works I appreciate the brief notes accompanying each topic to keep my memory sharp when bringing techiniques to students. This book has served students as well. While initially I bought the book in paperback form (much more reasonably priced for students) given the wear this book will get, hardback may be a wise investment.I believe this book is a must for teachers, students and craft persons who incorporate fiber in their works.
