Savannah Roberts was a tad angry. Who was this man who claimed to be Emma's half-brother? She was ready to run to protect her niece. But Jake Stone was determined to get to know his father's daughter. Jared arrived just in time for the reading of the will, from Venezuela. He, Jessie, and Myrna, 52 were flabbergasted to learn of their father having and affair while married to Myrna. Myrna finds herself with a monstrous house [using most of her husband's money to build it]and 3 acres -- Jake receives 60 thousand acres that constitue Stone Creek Ranch and all its cattle -- Jared receives 15 thousand acres with the shut down oil well and all of its equipment -- Jessica receives 15 thousand acres that holds the abandoned town of Makeshift --- and to Emma Victoria Roberts Stone is left 10 thousand acres. There in starts the plots for the stories that deal with the love lives of the Stone brothers and sister. Mryna seems to have used up most of her husband's monitary assets, now she wants land. So is she behind all the troubles that beset Jake in his trying to save Stone Creek Ranch? What is really touching is the rescue scene where Savannah comes to the aid of Jake in the middle of a downpouring storm. Will she be able to break through Jake's protective walls? His ex-wife really soured him. But the Stone siblings stick together no matter what. It is an excellent story for Silhouette Desire - short, neat read. Definitely Recommended - excellent author.

I picked this book up at the Thrift Store when I spotted Barbara McCauley as the author. I enjoy her writing. One of 3 books in series, Texas Pride & Texas Temptation are others. Jake Stone is typical strong, tall, good-looking, bullheaded rancher. Savannah Robert is strong willed and fiercely protective of her 9 yr old neice, Emma. The Stone family (Jake, Jared & Jessica) didn't know that Emma existed but now that they do...Jake is dominating and Savannah doesn't trust him. Will he try to take Emma from her? I enjoyed reading this book even though it is predictable. Good quick read, Savannah & Emma are lovely & endearing. Thank goodness Savannah is intelligent enough to retain her sanity through most of the book.
