Hello General Shelton,As a student of National Security in the early 1980s I read this book twice. Very few books take such a well researched and scientific approach to terrorism analysis. Dr. Robert Kupperman is one of the few terrorism scholars with the analytical skills and experience of a pure scientist. The book shows this in almost every chapter. Aspects to the book some people may not like (The key aspect I like about it.) are the analytical concepts: Example - Heuristics. This is not a book for Soldier of Fortune readers. It is book for people that want to try to understand terrorism and create an integrated proactive response. Although this book was published in 1979, it still should be part of the required reading for any course on terrorism and/or national security. In fact, Kupperman should be required reading for all NCOs, military academy students, officer candidates and Rangers. It is an excellent reference, without it, one cannot say they have a rounded understanding of this continuing threat to civilization. My favorite Kupperman quote, "We need to stop trying to prepare to fight WWII again."
