Unexpected Find

I actually purchased this book without any reader reviews. Shirl Henke is one of those authors that keeps you engaged in reading, and when you pick up one of her books it’s hard to put down until you’ve finished reading it and you keep going back to it. I really enjoyed reading Cass and Steve’s story. Cass has created a protective shell around herself because she’s had to and she did what she had to to save her birthright...and after how how she worked, she deserved it. She wasn’t girlie enough for her mom and was the male her father wanted. In comes Steve Loring and it’s sparks flying between them from the start. Steve is a wanted man so Cass thinks that gives her the upper hand to control the situation but Cass she’s not prepared for the feelings she develops for Steve and doesn’t know how to handle them other than trying to toughen up those barriers. Then because of the circumstances of their coming together, she doesn’t feel she can trust or put too much faith in Steve to stick around, or even to want to be around when the dust settles. They have their ups and downs and several misunderstandings, but I think that helped make their story feel real. It wasn’t all fairytale either as their relationship took a devastating hit. You can see them fall in love, and grow enough to work out their doubts and insecurities to come together in the end. And if you’re a Shirl Henke fan, you’ll remember secondary characters Blackie Drago and Kyle Hunnicut from other books. You also get a little family update on the Loring family in Pale Moon Stalker.
