Sebastian demands his own novel and here it is.

Sebastian is probably my absolute favorite Quinn character. He is an absolute charmer. But there is more to Sebastian and this book draws that out in this wonderful romantic tale. Our heroine is lovely as well, though perhaps not as memorable. She grows exponentially throughout the story and we love her more for it. A chance meeting and a tangled connection leads us all on a merry round until we reach our happily ever after.

Delightful - one of her best!

Full of wit and humor. After reading (read abandoning) the Lost Dukes series, I left this trio on my shelf unopened for months. Mistake! Each one of the three is better than its predecessor. I firmly believe that the best romance novels incorporate a good measure of humor and Ms Quinn seems to agree, to the extent that she occasionally had me laughing out loud. Engaging characters, clever narrative and witty dialogue - very much a keeper!!

Fun, witty, and terrific characters.

Set in London, 1822. Annabel Winslow is staying with her grandparents, Lord and Lady Vickers, in London for The Season. She hopes to find a husband rich enough to bring financial support for her family and ease her mother's burdens. Her grandparents are determined she would wed the Earl of Newbury, a horrid, portly man who is actively seeking a bride to beget an heir with. Lord Newbury's son died a year prior. Unless a new heir is born, Lord Newbury's title and wealth would go to Sebastian Grey, the nephew he deeply despises. Since Lord Newbury is in his late sixties, he has no time to lose. Of course, Annabel knows the slimy old man is interested in her because the females of her family have all proven extremely fertile. It has become a jest among the mature gentry that the birds begin singing whenever Annabel walks by. If only Lord Newbury's gaze did not make her skin crawl. Sebastian Grey is not eager for his uncle's title or wealth, though the money would be convenient. Most believe Sebastian has little money to call his own. However, unknown by even his closest friends, Sebastian has a secret income. Due to his insomnia, caused by memories of being a sniper in the war, Sebastian writes outrageous gothic novels. They are published pseudonymously and over the last few years have become all the rage. When Sebastian meets Annabel, he has no idea that she is his uncle's latest victim...uh wife-to-be. Annabel becomes the object of both their affections. Soon Annabel must choose between her family's livelihood and the man she has come to love. ***** FIVE STARS! To read a book by Julia Quinn is always a pleasure. This story overflows with Quinn's signature talents. ONE: The characters are very well developed. TWO: The plot is believable because THREE: many young ladies of this era had to wed much older men for titles and/or money. Of course, there is also FOUR: the witty dialogue, FIVE: humorous scenes and SIX: romance, which leads to SEVEN: some laugh out loud antics (or contagious giggle fits). All of which concludes with EIGHT: a happily-ever-after ending and NINE: readers feeling so happy that TEN: the book is given a place on their Keeper Shelf. This is one of Quinn's best, in my opinion, and not to be missed! STELLAR! ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

The Kind of Book a Good Fan Should Never Go Without

When I realized that Julia Quinn had published another book, this time about one of the supporting characters in "What Happens In London", I wasted absolutely no time whatsoever purchasing the novel. I expected everything a devoted fan would come to expect from a Quinn Novel - witty banter, lovable characters, and a romance so hot it could melt you to your core. What I received were all of those things, plus a delightful realization that, even though I must have read literally hundreds of romance novels, this particular novel made me laugh out loud more times than most of them combined. It was so charming, so utterly adorable, and so marvelously entertaining that I (as per usual with a Quinn Novel) couldn't possibly put it down!

Very Enjoyable

Julia Quinn is in fine form here! It was a pleasure to read this lovely, light-hearted romance. Very likeable hero/heroine, laugh-outloud funny at times, and romantic. Perfect summer read. Eagerly awaiting her next book...

Delightful, hilarious and utterly charming

This is one of Julia Quinn's most light hearted romances ever. It had me grinning more times than not and I truly enjoyed it. Annabel Winslow, the eldest country girl of eight siblings must find a husband of substantial means. Her father has passed away and her family is finding it harder and harder to pay for tuition for 4 boys at Eton as well as put food on the table. The answer to her family's prayers comes in the form of the Earl of Newbury who is not only her grandparents' age but utterly obese and disgusting. He is desperate for a new bride with the requirement that she can sire a healthy son so that his title and fortune do not pass to the heir presumptive, his nephew, Sebastian Grey. Unfortunately for Annabel, she is curvy to a fault with beautiful child bearing hips and an ample breasts which is more than enough to stir the prolific fantasies of the Earl of Newbury. While at a party, running from an assault from Newbury, Annabel literally trips over Sebastian Grey after one of his midnight assignations. They both assess their situations fairly quickly and accurately and decide to wait out their returns to the party. As they strike up a conversation, they build a friendship with one another until Annabel learns that the man she is talking to is the hated nephew of the Earl. She flees from the situation, but as the story unfolds, she finds herself in his company and under his spell continuously. When Sebastian learns that she is the poor object of his uncle's attentions, he can't help but intercede. All the while, as he's rescuing a damsel in distress, he doesn't deeply question why he's doing it until it's too late to realize he's head over heels in love. The only problem is, Annabel needs a wealthy husband to support her family and he's known as a mooch with no steady income. Can she possibly choose Sebastian, regardless of her feelings, in lieu of her duty and responsiblity? The story was a true delight! It is a beautiful love story of two people who make lemons into lemonade and share a rare sense of humor that is completely enchanting. It's not as steamy as many of Ms Quinn's novels, but it's rewarding in that the relationship is founded not only on attraction, but friendship. Sebastian is a truly wonderful hero and although Annabel is unsure of herself, you can almost feel her responsibility towards her family instead of to herself. The best of all is she doesn't dwell upon it making half the story her denial of her feelings. There are no misconceptions, miscommunications or betrayals in this one which is always refreshing. One other wonderful aspect for all you Julia Quinn fans, is that we find out who the horrible gothic novelist is from What happens in London.... remember death by pigeons? This is a great fast and fun read.

Return of Julia

I actually have to say that even though I loved her books, her newer ones were not my favorites. This book has captured everything Julia Quinn--her humor, wittiness, charming heroes, and likable, strong heroines. She brought back cameo's of some of her characters from other books which gave the feeling of a nice high school reunion. LOVE the book, and I can't wait for her next book to come out.
