A renowned parent educator and policy advocate on school violence offers parents useful advice on speaking with their children about vital issues. Includes ten scripted "family talks" tested by moms, dads, and kids.
Rarely do I make an effort to recommend a book, but this is one all parents should read. I have a teenage boy and I was having some difficulty communicating with him about what's been going on in the news...school shootings, hate crimes, etc. A friend told me about this book and it has really helped me find a constructive way to talk to my kid. Lots of great insight, lots of great scenarios, lots of useful tips on how I can be a more effective parent. I have already told a number of my friends about it and hope they will find it as useful as I did. Go get it now.

Step by step strategies in clear language that get to some essential practical techniques to carry on a dialog about violence. As a parent I know it can be difficult to understand how to start to talk with children to get through to them. This book offers useful variations. When all else fails, read the manual! Thanks to Dominic Cappello for the cool coaster that came with my copy!
Ten Excellent Talks!

Finally! A great book to help parents talk to kids. I bought copies for all my sisters with children! The book is nicely designed... it doesn't read like a textbook... and has practical knowledge and suggestions. It's really a great aid for parents - not a 'tell you how to raise your kids' lecture. The illustrated activities are a great way to break the ice with your kids!
