This book is an early Graham, quite good. Naive, warmhearted, 18-year old Catherine falls in love with American-Italian tycoon Luc Santini. Unlike most Graham heroes, Luc was not born rich, he's a poor family's prodigy child -- now one of the 10 richest young people in the world; he's used to fend for himself. He resists at first, then just takes Catherine's love and tries to pay for it. 2 years madly in love later, doormat Catherine finds out she's pregnant. Afraid to tell him (in case he might force a termination), she probes instead Luc's interest in marriage. He coolly trashes her hopes then leaves: "You have neither the background or education I would require in a wife" (Catherine is dyslexic, but he thinks her illiterate), "Our paths will separate some day, but don't worry, you'll be well provided for", "I don't sleep with the other women, but they make me look good at presidential dinners" -- can you believe this guy?? -- etc. She dumps him, disappears, has the child, raises the child for four years. There are honestly times when I want to strangle even the child ("It's *your* fault we're poor and we can't afford a house" "If I had a daddy...", "*You* move to London, I'm not coming" etc.-- how the heck does a 4 year old manage to make his mom feel so inadequate?). Unbeknownst to Catherine, Luc had returned 1 hour and a half after their fight to make up, found an empty house, realized he loved her madly, failed to find her, got desperate, hit the bottle, lost even his shirt off his back. Later he cleans his act, wins his fortune back and more, buys a house for Catherine and decides to propose to her the moment he finds her. Fast forward five years. Luc and Catherine meet by chance in a restaurant, and she hates even the sight of him. They meet, they fight, she trips over a rug and hits her head. She gets amnesia -- can't remember the past five years, thinks she's madly in love with Luc. He sees it as his second chance. And that's just the beginning of the book; wait, Catherine's forgotten about the child, and Luc doesn't even know the child exists. I don't know how Graham does it: I love and hate her hero at the same time, passionately. It's to her credit: I don't remember feeling so strongly about Harlequin characters, ever.
Worth The Read

Luc Santini is a powerful, rich, and seductive man. Catherine is a sweet and innocent young woman. Luc was taken advantage of by his late family and not so willing to believe in love. Catherine was orphaned as a baby and seeks for the love she has never known. Luc and Catherine meet in a chance happening and are drawn to each other. They engage in a year of romance which leaves Catherine pregnant. When she voices her love and desire to marry Luc he laughs in her face. Catherine then makes her escape and Luc is not aware of their child on the way. Five years go by and Luc and Catherine run into each other in a resturant. This time Luc is not about to let Catherine out of his grasp so easily. He didn't realize what he had until it was gone, he won't make the same mistake again. Now the situation is reversed and Luc demands Catherine wed him for the sake of their child. Will Catherine risk her heart again? You'll have to find out for yourself. This book has convincing characters and exciting encounters. It has, in my opinion, tactful romance that so many of the stories are missing today. You believe in the story line and feel for the characters. It's not as long as a novel, but definitley worth the read.

2 years being a mistress ... She had loved him too much that she was willing just being a well-kept mistress, and she had hoped that he had a little feelings for her. Catherine, with a low self-esteem and little courages left, brought herself to ask Luc about what he thought of marrying her, eventhough she'd already known he wouldn't like it and his answer would hurt. But she had to ... But his response indeed shattered her into pieces, she hadn't got any criteria that meet his standard of high-class-well-breed future wife, he had said. That had left her no choice but leaving the man she loved, with a child in her womb, and saved him from any scandal. Luc himself hadn't realised what she meant to him and how he needed her in his life until he lost her completely, without knowing about the baby she carried. There were a lot of conflicts involved in the story from the beginning, but then it ended in happy ending. This is one of my most favourite books from Ms.Graham's, and enjoy it a lot.
My Favorite Lynne Graham-it has it all!

To think I almost let the cover art steer me away...this romance has everything that I cherish most in a great read: a lot of passion, a lot of love that the two are too proud or dense to see, but we do; a little bit of peril, a hunk of a hero, surprises that I don't even see coming; disarming humor that crack us up in between swoons; a wonderful fulfilling ending. But this one has at least one major surprise that isn't on the back cover or leader-page, so I'm not spoiling it for anyone here. I love learning to love the hero before the last 2 paragraphs of the book, like too many errant authors do. Lynne Graham doesn't do that to her readers, and gives us plenty of elongated climax (oh, honey!), but this particular title gives many twists and turns that keep the whole book exciting! I have so many Top-10 Favs now that I have read 50 of Lynne Graham's books, that I am having a tough time weeding long-time fav's out to make room for new ones, but this one makes it. I will re-read this one several times, and enjoy every minute. I envy those of you who haven't read it yet, but are finding a copy now! Enjoy!

Luc and Catherine have a very passionate affair that Catherine wants to become a very passionate marriage. However Luc has other ideas and tells her she is not good enough for him. What he doesn't know is that she is pregnant with his child and she walks out on him. Years later they meet back up and in her attempts to protect her son the line between fantasy and reality is crossed. Excellent read!!! The best Lynne Graham book of the 90's and I do not say that lightly because I am a huge fan of hers. It really is an excellent read and hard to find. Snatch it up if you can.
