One of the best.

I'm not a regular reader of Catherine hart, I bought this book at a used bookstore. I have read the book twice and I have it in my own collection. This book will make you laugh, cry and feel other emotions that she goes through in this book. I was hooked. I have passed it along to friends for them to read and we all agree it was a wonderful book. I recommend to anyone who likes to read Historical Romance. You will not be disappointed.

A Good Read

The story of Charity and Luke is very touching.Charity is a young woman who looses everything on one night on a road from Dodge City. Her husband is killed and she is brutally raped by six men. In the attack Charity looses the baby that she is carrying. Wishing that she had died with her Johnny on that retched night Charity goes about the business of living life. She has vowed to revenge the death of her husband and unborn baby. She goes and askes Luke to help her, train her to be a gunfighter so she can kill her rapists.Luke is a gunfighter and has had a rough life. He trusts no woman and no man. He makes his life by the gun. Left at the age of 4 by his mother he is doing the only thing he can to survive. Luke thinks that Charity is crazy to want to undertake such an activity such as murder. Fate throws them together and together they learn how to heal, trust and to love. From pain and terror a tempest is born. This is a good story and worth the effort to track a copy of this book down.

This books a winner

I liked this book because of its damzle in destress out look, although she needed big strong Luke to help her find her attackers she still had her own mind and knew how to speak it. She wasn't just a blonde who needed a big protector. I love the books that have the meak and mild women who need the big strong guys protect them but I still think they should have their own minds and not have to hang all over their guys. I definitely recommend this book to you, it is well worth it. I also reommend "Fallen Angel" that is about a semi-nun who comes home because of her mother sick from a house fire, Jake her step brother a gunslinger falls for the nun Tori and wants to marry her ather dying mothers request, she says yes only to find the fire was not an accedent, now having the ranch where they live being attacked they must find whos doing at and why before they are killed. Fallen Angel is my favorite Catherine Hart book I hope you read it and agree.

Gritty and tender, violent and mystical.

Charity and her husband are attacked by several men while going home one evening, and her life is changed forever. Her husband was killed, and she was left for dead, the victim of a brutal rape. Not only does she have to deal with the emotional and phyical trauma, but the scorn of the town. When she recovers, her heart is full of vengeance, and she hires Luke, a reputed gunslinger, to help her track down the men who robbed her of happiness. Luke reluctantly agrees, and begins teaching Charity the art of self-defense. It is when they are on their way to hunting down the villians that Luke's hardened heart begins to soften towards Charity, and she begins to understand, with Luke's help, that she can love again. I felt Charity's rage and pain at having lost her husband and being raped. Catherine Hart addressed the seesaw of emotions a woman goes through after having survived an attack. She also makes it easy to fall in love with Luke because he's so patient with Charity. There's a bit of the supernatural in this story as a friend who saved Charity's life, helps her cross over to the other side through some kind of indian magic. In her dreams, she sees gets that chance to talk to her husband and the unborn child she lost. Charity also dreams of how each of the men she seeks vengeance upon will die. I wish she'd do a sequel. A very good read.
