Solid text with exceptional online resources

This book would probably be best for a new teacher or for a general education teacher trying to meet the needs of students with disabilities in the classroom. For me, as an experienced special education teacher, a lot of the content wasn't new to me. So consider whether or not you're the audience for this book before you buy (unless, like me, you have to buy it for a class :)). Here's the chapter breakdown: 1) Inclusive teaching as responsive education 2) Understanding learners with special needs: High incidence disabilities or conditions 3) Understanding learners with special needs: Low incidence disabilities or conditions 4) Other students with special learning needs 5) Delivery of special services through individualized plans 6) Differentiating instruction to promote access to the curriculum 7) Assessing students with special needs 8) Developing collaborative partnerships 9) Promoting positive behavior and facilitating social skills 10) Teaching reading 11) Teaching writing 12) Teaching mathematics 12) Facilitating content-area instruction and study skills Online, the LabSchool (which you can access using a code from the book) provides videos of the strategies in action in multiple classrooms - an invaluable resource! The other gem in this book is the ADAPT framework, which is used again and again: A - ASK "What a I requiring the student to do?" D - DETERMINE the prerequisite skills of the task. A - ANALYZE the student's strengths and struggles. P - PROPOSE and implement adaptation from among four categories (instructional content, materials, delivery, or activity) T - TEST to determine if the adaptations helped the student accomplish the task.
