Minahan gives a day-by-day account of an entire semester trying to execute a democratic classroom. This is a great book that will offer anyone interested in democratic pedagogy an inside look. Teaching Democracy: A Professors Journal offers suggestions about what possible content is available in an invention based, discussion based, student-centered, learning centered and student driven classroom. Minahan is candid about his experiences as well as his frustrations along the way. He personalizes the text by making us feel like we are in the class by introducing us to his students and giving a personal teacher's perspective about each of them so that we play a kind of witness to the process and can imagine our own classrooms with similar relationships and challenges.
