Well organized and easy to read, but make sure...

This is a well organized and easy to read book. It really helped me grasp the concepts of Java. This information is obviously outdated by this year of 2000, but it is better to start out with old Java i am sure, than to skip right to the new stuff. Also, make sure you have read the first book. It is entitled "Teach yourself java in 21 days" by Laura Lemay. Laura Lemay's book is really out of stock in every book store you look. The only way to really find it is online, and most are already used. YOU NEED LAURA LEMAY'S BOOK FIRST. It is important that you do. Other than that, this is a very good book to get the basics on.

Great reference but getting a little dated

Of all the Java books that I own, this is the one that gets the most use. Although it is starting to show its age, it covers each topic in a concise manner, but with enough detail to understand the basics. But what keeps me coming back to this book are the code samples. These are easy to read, well documented and give me exactly what I need to get my work done.
