I found Tatoo's & Motorcycles to be very imaginative, darkly humorous and satisfying. The characters are types that you find in real life and their secrets that they hide under the veneer of happiness in suburbia. A very origional work!
'Road novel meets small town tale -- original, warm.'

The cover review states that this novel is 'A sort of one-woman Thelma and Louise'. It is and it isn't. Yes, the novel is very visual, indeed filmic, and it does feature LUCY, a woman on the road and on the run with her two children. But the real hero of 'Tattoos and Motorcycles' is neither a man nor a woman, but a small town in America called Tinicum. In a jigsaw, chapter-by-chapter fashion, we are introduced to the inner fears, secrets, and dreams of various characters who people Tinicum's history as the town evolves from immigrant's paradise to forlorn suburbia. While these characters include oddball types such as a suicidal nurse, topless waitress, romantic tattoo artist, southern-belle assassin, unlucky gambler, and car-crazy wanna-be gangster, their lives come across as empathetic and endearing. The peculiar vision of David Lynch springs to mind, but the worlds of Raymond Carver or Thorton Wilder are probably closer. Highly recommended.
