This is the first book I have read by this author. I will read more of her work. I began reading Tarnished Hearts about 6pm in the evening and was so captured by it that I finished it in the wee hours of that same night. The main characters are complex and you quickly become engrossed in their lives. They are more than the one dimensional characters that often appear in this type of novel. And in the course of the story, they grow and change and in the end they are not really the same people they were in the beginning. I liked that about this book. These people seemed more like real people than in most stories of this kind. The plot is more complicated than in most as well. There are threads of Trev's (hero) painful and tortured past with his family, Leah's (heroine) near slavery to her own family's plans for her and her desire to live her own dreams, betrayal by those you trust most, a country torn apart by civil war, and so much more. And as the Trev and Leah struggle to overcome all the obstacles and fight to be together, you will find yourself not wanting to put down the book for even a few minutes. I highly recommend this book to any fan of true love conquering all!
