Great book

The books brilliant, I don't care what anyone else says. It's pessimistic sure, but it's the spanish civil war for crissakes. For a piece of fiction, it's as true as any other book about the spanish civil war. The George Orwell/Cambridge Five spy ring connection is pulled off beautifully. After you've read the book, look up "Julian Bell" on Wikipedia.

Sangria Anyone?

Originally titled Spanish Gambit. I picked this one up after reading Hot Springs, and just let me say that probably one of the big reasons I bought it was because it is set during the Spansih Civil War, which is one of my favorite conflicts in History, as well as I just love Spanish history and culture, having traveled there once. Anyway I liked the conflict the two main characters, with Soviets and Nazis thrown for good measure. Hot Springs is by my opinion the best book Hunter has written. Pick up Spainish Gambit or Tapestry of Spies they're the same book, you'll enjoy it.

I found the Tapestry a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The chapters seemed melt away with the hours. The backgrounds leave one craving for the balmy shores of Spain and the characters are marked with a deep richness and color that leave one longing for just a few more pages. This is truly historical fiction at her most inventive.
