I was spoiled by growing up with a book about Transactional Analysis, that had lots of white space, and drawings. It's unfair to compare this book with that one, so I will try to let it stand on its own merits. This is basically a book of discussions and exercises. Strayhorn doesn't just pontificate about why we talk the way we do, or how we should communicate... he gives examples of common good and bad communication activities, and provides exercises and then follow-up discussions for many situations. I found the book a little difficult to navigate, because I like to jump around when reading some types of non-fiction. I think that if one were reading it straight through, on one's own or with a small group, that it would be much better. So I think it's a good book for the right person. I am looking at the 1977 copy.
