Book Overview

Have you ever stopped praying?

When life seems unfair and prayer doesn't seem to make any difference, you may quit praying. Most people who admit that they stopped praying for a while, including the author, say they felt as if they were suffocating after a period without prayer.

"Sometimes I think God has called me to speak, write, and teach about prayer so I won't give up on it altogether," writes Harper. "After more than forty years...

VERY HELPFUL MATERIAL

"When our emotions rise and fall in our relationship with God, the cause may be physiological. A change in hormones or metabolism can create a sense of God's absence. Disease can also drain us of spiritual vitality; depression can also alter the chemical imbalances in our brains and create the sense that God has departed from us." Steve Parker shows us the way to get God's attention through prayer. An in-depth teaching for those of us who struggle with prayer, this book is not to be taken lightly. What makes this book so outstanding is that the author acknowledges that Christians will at some time or other have dry spells, due to some various circumstances. We do not invite these days but they lurk around until they are sitting right there in our laps. Prayer is worth the effort; yes. Therefore, regardless of the dry spells, regardless of the things that will happen when we face changes in our lives we should continue and stick to our praying; yes nevertheless. This book has brought reassurance that it is not that The Lord loves me less when I cannot feel His presence, which is to be trusted, feeling it or not. If we do this, he is available to us who call on Him twenty-four/ seven and more. Bless you Steve Harper for your wonderful insight and teaching. Give us another book soon. Prayer without the glossy finish

Steve Harper has written a book that should be reading for every Christian desiring to grow in this area of their faith walk. What I love the most about Steve's book is he does not come to us as an "expert" in prayer, but rather as a fellow sojourner with questions, doubts, and fears just like you and I. In the same vein as some of the faith's greatest prayer teachers, Talking in the Dark shines a light on this often misunderstood area of the Christian's life. And Steve Harper does so with deep humility and a gentle touch. This book will be a great read for your Bible study, a prayer ministry, or as a gift for a friend to simply say, "thanks for praying for me."Direction: Discernment for the Decisions of Your Life
