Wonderfully creepy stories

Read it as a kid (I'm a 54 yr old juvenile delinquent now) I have never ever been scared over any movie, but there is 1 story in this anthology that has stuck with me for cough cough decades. I lost my copy long ago and always wished I had one. Delighted to say I bought it and will be getting the rest of the series and will reread them with the reckless abandon I did when I got my Scholastic Books order waaay back when.

Eeek!!

That was my reaction when I first read these stories when I was younger. I thought that the first one (The Furry Collar, I believe it was called) made me shiver and made me come up with some good ideas for stories of my own. I think that overall these stories are quite good, but they apply for much younger readers. Not for teenagers who are sooooo over this kind of children's stuff. =)

The book I read is called Tales for the Midnight Hour, by J.B Stamper. I really recommend this book to the people that like scary stories if not put this book down wimp! Tales for the Midnight Hour is full of horror. At night it will make you stay up asking yourself "is that true?" This book is better than "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark." I`ll give you a summary about one story. This one is called "The Black Velvet Ribbon" Which is about a girl who always had a black velvet always worn on her neck. She would never take it off not even on her wedding! Her husband always asked her if she would take it off but she would always answer "you'll be sorry." Always the same question and answer. The day came when she was sleeping he pulled the ribbon and saw there was no ending until... I will not tell you the rest figure it out yourself! If you enjoyed this summary you'll enjoy the whole story. The way you can figure the last part out is by locating this book in any library. Trust me you wont like it you'll love it! By: Giovanna M.

Great Even Now!

I first bought this book at a book fair when I was in elementary school. I read it constantly, and loved it!! Now that I have my own child, I bought another copy for him, and he absolutely adores it! He loves to read it, and especially have it read to him! GREAT, GREAT BOOK!!! Especially on those dark, stormy nights!!

Tales to tingle your funny bone...

I read this book first when I was in like 4th grade. I'm now 27. I have 2 copies of it. I read the stories all the time. My finance has a brother who is 11 and he had a sleepover. I went there and read it to them. They were scared, but at the same time were laughing at the funny stories as well. It is such a great book. The Furry Collar and The Black Velvet Ribbon are my two favorites. All of the stories are great however. A Free Place to Sleep was a little silly, but that is what is so fun about this book. Anyone who finds it is a lucky person... I want to get the other two parts to this book, Still More Tales for the Midnight Hour and Even More Tales for the Midnight Hour. Good Luck reading!

Reaching in and grabbing something inside you

I first red this book when I was in about 4th grade. The book contains somewhat simple, yet hauntingly horrifying tales that reach in and grab something inside you. My favorites are "The velvet collar," the classic "The Black Ribbon," and another one... "The Claw"(?) I misplaced it and miss it terribly. (I'm ordering another) If you like simple, yet haunting tales of spooky horror, this is a really really good book. (I rescently bought "MORE tales for the midnight hour" and that one's no where near as good. Over half the tales in there are less famous ones, yet I've heard them before in different ways. The new ones are cheap and disappointing)
