Paul Copperman begins his book with the statement: "The big question in this country is not whether children can read, but whether they will read." He makes a compelling case for the importance of reading for pleasure. "Pleasure reading is one of the most profound elements in your child's education - profound becasue an absorbed reader transforms information into experience." The book provides general information on how parents can support thier child's reading development, and is the only resource we have found that provides such a wealth of specific reading activities for the home. Two thirds of the book is devoted to the activities that comprise what Copperman calls a "Family Reading Program". We have used many of the activities described by Paul Copperman with our two girls. Very helpful and practical book. A Treasure chest of useful activities.
