Looking For Love in All the Wrong Places

Debut author D.L. Christie chronicles the life and loves of a young girl in her novel, TAKE TIME 2 KNOW HIM. Since her early teens, Deidre "De" Dickerson looked for love in all of the wrong places. While visiting her grandmother for the summer during her thirteenth year, De develops her first crush, Willie Roberts. Despite the fact that Willie is known as a "love `em and leave `em" type of guy, De thinks that his feelings for her are different. Eventually he steals her heart, her virginity, and leaves her alone and pregnant. Devastated by her loss, De decides that Willie may desire her more if she is with someone else, so she turns her affections to Bernard Carter, "Scooter." Scooter has been smitten with De since the first time he saw her when they were children. After an extremely short courtship, he marries her and they move to Delaware. Although De is not certain that she is in love with him, she does feel that he will be a good father for her son, Kwasi, and she tries to make the best out of her situation. But Scooter has a deadly secret that ultimately may tear the marriage apart. After her drama with Scooter, De moves on, but she continues to rush into relationships. Through all the heartbreaks, rejections, trials, and tribulations, De learns valuable lessons about herself, but is it enough to transform her from a naïve young girl to a more confident, self-assured woman? The title, TAKE TIME 2 KNOW HIM, has a dual meaning. De always rushed into relationships, giving her mind, body, and soul without really ever taking time to communicate with her potential mates. Most of her relationships were based around sex, and in retrospect, she found that many of her situations could have been prevented if she had taken time to get to know the people she became involved with. The second meaning has a spiritual connotation. Through her journeys, De also learns the importance of getting to know God and letting his will be done. D.L. Christie has penned an excellent debut novel. The characters are people that we all know: women who let men take advantage of them, and men who prey on the insecurities of women. The story flowed well, however, the novel begins with De being diagnosed with a disease and throughout the story there is no evidence of her illness, nor is it mentioned in the end (perhaps there is a sequel in the works that will address that issue). Overall, TAKE TIME 2 KNOW HIM is an excellent novel that addresses the issues of promiscuity, drug abuse, domestic violence, and abandonment, and teaches the pitfalls of rushing into relationships without taking time to REALLY get to know a person.

Life Then & Now

After having the pleasure of reading TAKE TIME 2 KNOW HIM I discovered an actual known fact that its just times that change because the same issues occur to different people time after time.The character Deidre in the novel, most females have experienced some of the same issues she went through trying to find LOVE. Although a lot of women don't like to exploit their personal situations it can be safe to say it happens to us all.I enjoyed reading D.L.Christie's first novel on love. I noticed a difference in language with her novel than I've read from other famous authors. I noticed more usage of the southern accent & dialect. Which is very rare in books today. It seems more authors stick to the same ol' dialect and it works for them but I enjoyed a switch from the norm with this book. Heads up on doing your own thing. I hope to read more of that southern dialect from Ms.D.L.Christie up and coming novels. Good Luck and Best Wishes on all your endeavors.Luv Ya!!!!!!

A Growing Experience

After reading this book all I can say is this is a must read for any young woman or man who sees sex as the only defining experience of real love. This book delivers a message of spiritual and self love that will make the true definition of "What's Love Got To Do With It" plain and simple.I see this story as a young womans natural and spiritual transformation into maturity. Like a swan, we sometimes have to endure the ugliness outside before we can get to the real beauty on the inside. I love reading books with a message that overcome adversity. This book is definitely one that lets our young and young at heart know as long as we have God we have a way out no matter what the need is in our life and God will direct us to find "His" true love.

Get To know HIM before you get to know them.

Take time to know him is about a journey to self discovery and self love. The main character Deidre Dickerson, spent so much time getting to know men that she never got to know herself or God. This young girl was book smart but street stupid. She fell for every smooth talking, good looking man that gave her a compliment. I think DL Christie did a great job in relating what happens to young girls who don't understand the power of the God within. The mind set of this young girl reminds me of many the the pre-teen and teenage girls today. I hope this novel will enlighten and inspire all readers to remember to Take Time 2 Know HIM.

"Taking The Time"

I thought this book was a phenomenal read. This first time author took us on the highs and lows of a young women experiencing too soon life issues she was not prepared for. The herione Deidre Dickerson was typical of young people who think they know all the answers. She discovers through hardships that adult decisions carry adult consequences. Dee finds herself a young mother who becomes involved in a series of wrong relationships looking for love and security that can not be found in the arms of the men she thinks will become her savior. This book is an inspirationl journey as Dee discovers true love can only be realized when we examine ourselves accepting the precious gift from within before it can be manifested from without. I look forward to more from D.L. Christie. She has a "tell it like it is" writing style that grips you until the last page. Kudos Ms. Christie. Great first effort!!
