Take Me Back to the Bloody 100th

William Freund was a small-town boy at loose ends after graduating from high school in 1937. When he ran out of options at home, he decided to join the Army and become a pilot. He didn't make it into the Army Air Corps on the first try, instead landing in the Army Medical Corps doing work he found hilarious at times and harrowing at others. When WWII broke out, he made another run at the Air Corps. He was successful this time, although pilot training proved to be challenging. Eventually, he was selected to join the group of pilots who would learn to fly the B-17 Flying Fortress. After training, Bill was assigned to the 100th Bomb Group, soon to become known as the Bloody 100th. He flew 15 missions before being shot down. He would then find himself in circumstances he did not fully understand. Even as he attempted to adapt to his new life, he plotted to return to the 100th Bomb Group to help win the war.
