Excellent Intro to the moving meditation that is Tai Chi.

My introduction to Tai Chi was at my local community center. I had been encouraged to do some sort of low impact exercise. Tai Chi had been mentioned specifically as I was recovering from a long period of illness which included pneumonia. The exercise was perfect as it also added a sense of relaxation that is hard to achieve. The mindfulness encouraged by my teacher, Mark Hodges, is also a central theme in the book and important to achieving the movements of Tai Chi. The teacher and the author both emphasize that if one is doing something that hurts, then the Tai Chi routine must be modified to suit the person. Balance is the key to it all. When one gets older the body tends to get out of balance and the learning the movements taught in this book and by my teacher tends to help one regain the balance lost through age and haste in our daily life. The book must not be hurried through or the meaning and learning may be lost by the way side. It is okay to read, put the book down, do the movement and then pick up the book again when the mind is ready. The class I am in is for people over the age of 55 and I believe this age is a perfect time to begin a new exercise for the later part of life. Works for me... I love Tai Chi... My teacher is a good one and so is this book. I liked it so well that I had one sent to a friend of mine. It was fun to have some of the history in print so that I could ponder it, so the book answered some of my questions.
