Excellent!

"Tabor's Trinket" was recommeneded to me by a good friend whose judgement I respect! This book was such fun to read! You are caught up in the plot right away and it never lets up! You'll love this strong, smart and very capable heroine! And, as an added plus - the historical detail is impeccable! This author really did her research! Please Ms. Lane, how about a sequel?? Or just another great book!!!!!

A tale of great love overcoming all obstacles

This is a wonderful journey into the day-to-day life of England in the 1400's. It brims with fascinating details of castle and village life, gypsy lore, and the way that nobles traced their exalted bloodlines and planned elaborate plots to kill each other to secure their vast estates. Markets and bedchambers, kitchens and smoke-filled inns come alive in vivid colors, sounds and scents. But the heart and soul of this book is the gripping love story of a man and a woman from two different worlds who must overcome daunting obstacles to be together forever. I loved it.

A "one-breath" book

I just finished Tabor's Trinket last night. It is so wonderful, a beautiful story. It is a one-breath book, where you cannot get enough and then when you get to the end you are upset that it is over. I hope that she has a second "Trinket" in the works and that we will see it soon.

Tabor's Trinket

Janet Lane 's debut novel, Tabor's Trinket, is a superbly woven story that gives the reader exactly what they love in a romance: budding love, obstacles to overcome, villains to be thwarted, ultimate sacrifice, and a satisfying resolution. Sharai and Lord Tabor come from opposite backgrounds and beliefs, she's a traveling gypsy that yearns for a home, he's a lord that must forgo his own needs for his obligations. When they first meet, he is wounded from a battle and seeks cover in a gypsy camp. Sharai has dreams of growing up to marry a rich man, but it is her bravery that saves him from certain death. Years later, he has regained the land, but desperately needs money. Now a beautiful woman, Sharai and her gypsy band have returned. While Tabor and Sharai overcome their painful pasts, can they sacrifice everything they hold dear to have a future together? Tabor's Trinket captures the reader's attention from the first chapter and holds it through to the end. This is truly a treasure to read.

exciting medieval romance

In 1430 in the Coin Forest, Lord Hungerford attacks Tabor lands killing the lord and his wife while destroying much of the economy. Tabor's brother Richard barely escapes with his life, vowing vengeance. The new Baron is taken in by gypsies who give him time to somewhat heal from his wounds. There he meets the young Sharai, who saves his life when Rauf Hungerford tries to kill him. Five years later, Tabor still vows revenge even as he searches for Sharai whose courage and beauty haunts him. However, Tabor knows he must marry wealth and power if he is to defeat Hungerford and his knights as everyone knows of their feud including the King, but no one will condemn the atrocities of five years ago or assist Tabor; that is unless he marries into such support. When he sees Sharai he knows his heart conflicts with his brain. Though somewhat similar in tone to too many medieval romances, Sharai refreshes the tale with her courage and fortitude as she comes to the aid of her beloved several times keeping him safe from a backstabbing rival. The exciting story line focuses on the intrigue of an era filled with betrayals while Hungerford seems to have gotten away with the deadly assault though Tabor plots revenge. Fans will appreciate Tabor's dilemma as he believes he must choose between love and betraying a "death bed" vow. Harriet Klausner
