This is a fantastic resource! I use this with 2nd and 3rd grade. Great for systematically practicing spelling and phonics. I use at least 3X a week. Kids especially love the challenge of the mystery word on the last step of each activity and race to see who can figure it out first!
Excellent resource for kids who need help with spelling and phonics.

I've used this with my classes through the years and the kids enjoy the activity and it challenges all the kids! Patricia Cunningham and all of her materials are amazing!
Good Resource for ESL

I teach ESL and literacy for second graders, and this book has been excellent. We use letter tiles and each child spells out the words. I find that it reinforces basic sight words, while building on each word. I especially like the "move the letters around" and the secret word. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes to do a lesson. I find it's a great way to begin my class.

Systematic Sequential Phonics they use has proven to be a very valuable tool in teaching my ESE students the rules of phonics. They have come an amazingly long way using this book.
This one is the best!

I own a number of Patricia Cunningham's books. I use many of her techniques. But this book is the best of the "Making Words" series for teachers who want a 'systematic sequential' plan. Other Making Words books seem to be for better spellers. My students needed the careful pacing, beginning with predominately short vowels, that is found in this book. This is the book I use every day!
