it works

I'm a new transition to triathlons. This book works well for me because I'm prepared to accept the information the book has to offer. The information is objective and the training methods presented appear well organized with technical reasoning backing up the new concepts I learned here. I feel the author is genuinely concerned about the readers success and therefore disagree with other reviewers comments' that the there is too much (unnecessary) training. My thoughts on this matter are that Triathletes need a sufficient amount of training to efficiently compete and I think once again the author backs up the reasons why the training is important . My interpretation of the general training outline presented is that this will prepare one well for the stresses of half ironman competition, but one can adjust up or down from there to suit their racing needs. For a 1994 copyright, this book is well worth the money because the facts, figures, and methods being used appear to be genuine by even today's standards. If you wish to find something exactly for you please visit your local full service health club and pay several hundred dollars for a genuine taylored plan, this is a serious statement for those being extremely serious about this sport. But for the novice like me, this book tells me everything I need to know at this point. See you on the course friends...

This is the one book, if you're only buying one, to buy.

After 23 years of running and racing - in everything from the mile (time 5:15) to the marathon (time 3:42) I opted to try the triathlon. This book provided more useful information than the magazines I tried. They spent too much time telling me how great people like Mark Allen are at the sport - I knew that. The book is candidate about the costs involved. If you're interested in the sport, a cheap bike is a bad idea. I'd like to have seen a bit more on the Ironman, but that's because that's my next goal. The advice on running was on point. The suggestions for swimming are - to my chagrin, all too accurate. Ditto, the cycling.

Lot's of information!!

I found this book extremely helpful for a single sport athlete looking to make the transition to triathalons. Lot's of good info. However, I found the training programs hard to follow and left me looking for more complete training books.

Great book for a new triathlete

Its been 15 years since I logged in runs of 90 miles a week. Now, at age 37, I am trying to get back into shape . . in one year I want to successfully participate in a triathlon. Swim, Bike, Run is the best book I could have purchased. It lays down a training schedule, offers many valuable suggestions and incorporates heart rate monitoring (something just gaining popularity when I stopped running). I highly recommend this book! I am one month into the program and looking forward to the next eleven.

Excellent triathlon training book!

Of all books that I have read on triathlons, this is THE BOOK! This book assumes you know nothing about triathlons and therefore gives you a step-by-step instruction on everything from training to explaining the different choices in putting together a triathlon bike(along with pros and cons on each choice). Not one question was left unanswered, and each answer was thorough and with the intentions of a best friend. I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to train in a triathlon in a second
