A BOOK ABOUT HOTTIES OF THE 60'S

THIS BOOK IS ABOUT SOME OF THE CUTIES ON TV BACK IN THE 60'S. MOST WERE MY FANTASY GIRLS IN MY PUBERTY. ALWAYS THOUGHT APRIL DANCER WAS SUPER HOT ALONG WITH THE SOCK IT TO ME GIRL. THE BOOK BRIEFLY BUT IN DETAIL COVERS THE ACTRESSES LIFE AND CAREER. ALSO HAS SOME GREAT PICS AND HAS A VARIETY IN AGE COVERED ALSO, FROM EVA GABOR TO GOLDIE HAWN. THIS IS FOR CHILDREN OF THE 60'S AND FOR TV NOSTALGIA SEEKERS. RECOMMENDED.

An Aristotlean look at the sexy women of Sixties TV

Naming the "Sweethearts of '60s TV" for me? No problem. Laura Petrie and Emma Peel. Since Ronald L. Smith includes both Mary Tyler Moore and Diana Rigg in this look at what made sixteen women the sex symbols of the '60s, he is certainly on the right track as far as I am concerned. Smith's purpose is two fold. First, to recall the allure of these women at a time when they were the sexiest women on television. Second, to describe what happened when these '60s fantasy girls had to face the reality of being women in the '80s. The result is a fairly entertaining series of nostalgic recollections about the television shows we watched growing up with a touch of what the real world does to our fantasies.Smith does a nice job of dividing these sixteen women into five categories: Girls Next Door looks at Dawn Wells of "Gilligan's Island" (hang on to your hats, Ginger is in the book too), Donna Douglas of "The Beverly Hillbillies," Sally Field of "Gidget," and Marlo Thomas of "That Girl." Obviously Smith is talking about the stereotype of the sweet, innocent young thing and not the literal girl next door. After all we are talking about women who live on a deserted island and in a mansion next to a cement pond, not to mention having a steady boyfriend named Donald. But this was also a time when a beach girl could turn into a nun.Dream Wives includes Mary Tyler Moore from "The Dick Van Dyke Show," Eva Gabor from "Green Acres," and Elizabeth Montgomery from "Bewitched." I have to say right up front that the middle one of this trio would not have been on my list and is the one flaw in the selection process. Once again, the label has broad meaning since only Laura Petrie had a "realistic" marriage and Darrin never appreciated the special talents of his wife.Comic Cuties includes both Judy Carne and Goldie Hawn from "Laugh-In," and Barbara Feldon from "Get Smart." Now, 99 almost made the list but her choice of a husband undercut her appeal. Ironically it is Goldie Hawn, who was just a giggling dancing blonde with phrases painted on her body back in the '60s, who is on the top of my list as the sexiest woman on earth. Yes, even over Kate Hudson. There is wisdom that comes with maturity.Fantasy Figures brings together Tina Louise from "Gilligan's Island," Julie Newmar making the list even though she was only a guest star on a few choice episodes of "Batman," and Barbara Eden from "I Dream of Jeannie." I was surprised Samantha Stevens and Jeannie the Genie were not on the same list, but there is a bit of overlap in several of these categories.Finally, Women of Action has the clearest no-brainer selections in this book that comes up with the obvious trio of Anne Francis and the most famous mole in the world on "Honey West," Stefanie Powers of "Girl from U.N.C.L.E." and Diana Rigg from the celebrated British import "The Avengers."
