I can't remember when I first read this book. I think I picked it up in a second-hand store in the early 1980s. It's a funny tale of a divorced housewife/artist who heads to NYC in search of a career and love, although not necessarily in that order. She narrates a series of affairs, her job at a True Crime-type magazine, and her obsession with an obnoxious, game-playing novelist who wears leather pants. The war between the sexes hasn't changed much; read this book for some tragic-comic proof.
