loved it

I am addicted to this series and can't wait to read the next book. Laurall K Hamilton really knows how to draw in a reader and keeps me coming back for more.

Pure magic . . . lots of magic

MAGIC . . . nothing but pure magic. That is the only word to use for Laurell K. Hamilton's Swallowing Darkness. I have read every book in the Merry Gentry series and always look forward to the next one. The one thing this book has plenty of is magic, lots and lots of magic. One thing it has less of is SEX, maybe because she is pregnant with twins (each with three fathers, wow) and maybe because she is so busy trying to stay alive. There is more action than usual but to me the greatest was the exceptional magic. I love magic, can't get enough. There seemed to be more storyline than usual, usually it's just non-stop sex which kinda gets aggravating at times. I like the series because of the magic, oh, did I mention that before???? I would recommend this to anyone who likes LKH. Keep up the good work.

Good Read!

I thought this book was an excellent read. I liked how Meredith changes with the fact that she is pregnant and has more to think about than herself. And it is true, one cannot be nice all the time, sometimes you have to do what's necessary, even if you don't really want to do it. Those are the difficult decisions to make. I will be dissappointed if this is the last book, there are a couple of loose ends I would like to see tidied up! But if you have read the entire series, then this book will make complete sense to you.

Swallowing Darkness

This book wrapped up the adventures set in motions by previous books in the series, and forshadowed Meredith's future within the world that she inherited. I enjoyed the series from the standpoint of adventure, and was entertained by partially-human Meredith's attempts to make sense of a world that most humans would find "strange", as she matured and learned the limits of her own unusual powers. Significantly, one point of the series seemed to be that great knowledge comes with great effort, sometimes pain and frustration, and that you often have to make the right decision, even when it is not the preferred or desirable decision, in order to move ahead in your own development. Another is the interesting premise that this female character, at least, was only able to find her talent, power, and salvation through experiencing, and testing the boundaries of, loss, love, and sexual "healing."
