For All Spiritual Seekers

Rabbi Sheila Weinberg's book is sub-titled "An Atypical Religious Memoir" That it is. This is not your father's (or mother's) religious memoir. It is devoid of preaching and abstractions about religion. It is the story of a spiritual seeker who jumps out from pages right into your lap and into your heart. The author does not hold back from her own short-comings, yet this is not a phony triumphal rising above the obstacles memoir. It is the story of a woman whose religious and spiritual quest is intensely personal. It stretches from AA to Israel, with many stops in between:: marriage, divorce, children, grandchildren, drinking, running, yoga, and searching for making religion real in the 21st century. Although Weinberg is a rabbi, this is a story people from any religious or cultural background will resonate with. It is so real. What makes this book so good is that it is so intimate without being simply confessional. Weinberg struggles with the issues many of us struggle with, and her memoir allows the reader to focus on his/own story. Anyone who considers him/herself to be on a spiritual path should read this book.

not surprisingly, wonderful!

In this slim memoir filled to the brim with courage, compassion, insight and inspiration Sheila takes us into her confidence. One has the feeling of sitting down with a large pot of freshly brewed tea, a box of tissues, and a plate of rugaleh while a dear friend pours out the sorrows, the joys, the wisdom of a life lived fully. She gently tells her story and invites the reader to look at his or her own story with more generosity and kindness. Your heart will smile with recognition and love as you read this book.
