This is hands down the BEST training book I've read. When my Border Collie died, I was heartbroken. I got a new puppy and this book's instructions have helped shape her into the obedient, loving, friendly dog that she is today. She has a phenomenal recall, thanks to the "rubber arm technique" Paul Loeb explains so well. I always get compliments about her tenderness and good behavior. This book is a huge reason for that. I cannot recommend it enough.

Paul Loeb is brilliant. Understand that I grew up in an animal training family. We trained show horses, working horses (cutters and ropers), hunting dogs (pointers and retrievers) as wells as Dobermans trained for schutzhund. After growing up in this environment I must say that I learned more from the writing of Paul Loeb than I did in all the years before. Mr. Loeb (no relation) is right-on. His book helped me train a miniature dachshund (as a retriever and field trained) that impressed the heck out of my father who was quite an accomplished animal trainer as well as many of his colleagues. Paul is the original "dog whisperer." As far as I am concerned, Paul has earned my respect and I recommend his methods wholeheartedly.

I used the training method in the book by Mr Loeb and had great success with my Bichon. I love the fact that I never needed to strike my dog and all he knows when I reach for him is LOVE! He was house trained at 14 weeks (I got him at 8 wks)and I can trust him explicitally.
