FROM THE BACK COVER: SUPERNATURAL SCOTLAND: SCOTLAND IS FAMED FOR HER WILD LANDSCAPE, HER BLOODY HISTORY, VIOLENT REBELLIONS, HER LITERATURE, MUSIC, PHILOSOPHERS AND ARTISTS. BUT SCOTLAND HAS ANOTHER... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I picked this book up in Scotland. It is an overview of supernatural "stuff" that has happened in Scotland. It covers the spirit world by looking at famous mediums. Of course there are a number of ghost stories. The topic of ley lines and their relation to infamous sites such as Rosslyn Chapel is covered. There is also a brief overview of Scottish supernatural creatures such as giants, kelpies, lake monsters, fairies, mermaids, etc. The book wraps up with a discussion of Scottish witchcraft, prophecies and curses. This is a fun overview of all sorts of interesting supernatural phenomena and events in Scotland. As in most books of this type, they are looking for a broad audience so they have enough information to be interesting to the casual ghost hunter or lake monster hunter, but nothing in depth. The book makes easy reading, and while I might not completely agree with the way it's divided, it does allow you to jump around to those topics that most interest you. Do not expect a lot of of detail on specific topics or cases, but it makes a nice starting point with a short list of further reading at the end for those interested. About the only major complaint I can make about this book is that I wish it had a map. Since this book was marketed strongly to the tourist trade, it makes sense that readers wouldn't necessarily be familiar with the areas being mentioned. A general map of locations mentioned in the book would have given a good idea of the regions being discussed. If you like reading books about the supernatural, and are interested in Scotland, by all means pick up a copy.
