As is the case with the other reviewers, this volume has been with me a good many years, decades in fact. It's thin and convenient and full of recipes that will produce successful yeast and quick breads. I use this book mostly for the latter. My very favorite quick bread is the carrot-coconut bread on p. 80. Don't know how many times I've made it, but it's always a hit. The popovers (p. 90) are excellent. Some of the recipes are not that authentic (I was going to say, "a little flaky", but then thought I'd be misunderstood!); for example, you're asked to add 2 cups of fine bread crumbs, toasted very dark, to a "Peasant's Black Bread" (p. 14). I'm sorry, but that's cheating! Make sure you skip the Orange Gumdrop Date Bread (p. 81) and the Date-Nut Loaf (p. 75), which calls for a cup of grated cheddar cheese. The Oatmeal-Applesauce Loaf (p. 74) is nice, as is the Lemon Bread (p. 73; skip the icing - it's fine plain). If you get this book, just take care to avoid the imposters and enjoy the really good recipes, of which there are several.

I have had this book for about 10 years or more, and it is the best book on bread I have found, and I have a lot of them. I came in here looking for it for a friend, and decided to put in my 2 cents. If you are an expert bread baker or a novice, this is the book for you.
Someone "borrowed" my copy and I NEED a replacement

Great book. My favorite recipe is Challah bread. Fortunately I had put that one in the computer before someone borrowed the book from my wife's desk at her work (without asking). If anyone can lead me to a copy of this book, I'd really appreciate it!
Excellent basic book for cooking both quick and yeast breads

I've had this book for over 15 years and make everyone's favorite banana bread from it (with modifications, of course!). Even good for junior bakers, because the quick breads are straight-forward, and there are tips, tricks and step-by-step instructions for baking success. Too bad it's out of print, but a revised printing with updated graphics would be great.
