Molly is finally coming out of her shell, thanks to a burgeoning romance with a boy who works at the Sunset Island stables, but her friends worry that she might also be in danger. This description may be from another edition of this product.
In "Sunset After Midnight," Darcy Laken has just started college and met a sophisticated classmate named Tony Mendez, who she starts dating, even though she already has a boyfriend: Scott Phillips, a Sunset Island police officer. Tony works at Foxfire Stables, where Darcy hopes her good friend, Molly Mason, will learn to ride her horse again in their riding program for the disabled. (Molly's a paraplegic.) However, shortly after Molly boards her horse there, strange things start happening--like theft, arson, and poisoning--and soon the staff at Foxfire Stables are under suspicion, specifically Tony. It's rather obvious who the bad guy is; in fact, the reader will probably be able to guess him/her about halfway into the book. And as for motive, there isn't one. A couple other reasons why I gave this book a "4" instead of a "5" was because I was a little disappointed about the telepathic scenes--or lack of them. Darcy apparently has ESP; however, the only telepathy I was aware of were her nightmares, and anyone can have those. Also, the romance was a bit corny and unbelievable. I didn't feel any major spark between the couples, even though the author repeatedly stated they were crazy about each other. But "Sunset After Midnight" was a quick read (I read it in one day), so I had to give it at least a "4". Fans of teen romantic suspense and of the Sunset Island books should probably like this spin-off series, even though Cherie Bennett doesn't do the writing herself--a ghostwriter (Jessica Lynn) does.
