Illuminating Thoughts

"As we grow older, it becomes more and more obvious that what we take seriously is not all that serious. What we will call obvious, younger people will call wisdom." ~ pg. 11 As a lover of quotes, Patrick J. McBride often shared quotes through a newsletter he wrote to inspire a small group of people. One day he started to also include his own thoughts as quotes and everyone wanted to know the author of these creative and meaningful thoughts. His weekly newsletter was then replaced by the writing of three "Sundrops" each day. These have been included in this wonderful book that brightens the topics of health, faith, anger, fear, life, time, challenges, love, beauty, destiny, music, kindness, serenity, worry, regret, illness, death, hope, children, the present, happiness, art, goals, change, wisdom and relationships. "If you were introduced to an exact copy of you, what advice would you give?" ~ pg. 30 Most of the quotes are profound in wisdom, but a few are actually funny and will give you a moment of rest and laughter. A few of the quotes startle your own inner knowing and provide a moment of awakening. Sundrops on Life contains truth the soul craves and quite a few of the quotes may affect you on the emotional level. Think of the beauty of this quote: "The kite that faces the wind flies the highest." ~ pg. 26 There is a real sense of determination and strength in that quote. Many of the quotes also bring a sense of peace: "The keys to serenity are to accept where you are, dream of where you wish to be, and firmly believe that all that happens is a blessing from heaven." ~pg. 52 Patrick J. McBride's goal is to make sure every soldier in VA Hospitals across the country has a copy of this inspiring book. You may want to buy extra copies and send them to a VA Hospital to help with this wonderful cause. Time after time, these quotes surprised and enlightened me in a deeper wisdom that the heart knows. If you love quotes then these are some of the best I have ever read and I can highly recommend them for your quote collection. I am sure that soon they will be some of your most loved quotes as they bring a sense of completion to your day. "Sundrops On Life" is a book that brings you back to the present while you contemplate how you will live in the future. Truly Healing! ~The Rebecca Review

Powerful, Powerful Punch in a Small Package

I dare you to open this book and NOT be touched by what you read. Patrick McBride has written a book of such purity, such beauty and such profound wisdom, I am just amazed at the strength found within the pages of this book. We have all seen many of the same sayings over and over for years, and while I do not belittle their effectiveness, we do become used to them. To have an entire book of fresh, new perspectives is just amazing! Each and every one is just rich and a true nugget of a jewel. Patrick McBribe has a lovely website where you can sign up to receive these fabulous nuggets in your email box everyday. I would suggest you do that also. What a nice thing for the author to offer! The one that hit me between the eyes was this one..."To express criticism of a partner or a child by joking in front of others elicits a moment of laughter and a lifetime of pain." OUCH - that hit a bit close to home for me and reading this has REALLY caused me to stop and rethink some of my own long held patterns. This is such an original, lovely book, I promise you will be as charmed as I have been.

Fantastic Book of Original, Wise Sayings

Several years ago, Patrick McBride sent out an uplifting newsletter among a small group of people. He usually included inspirational quotations but one day, found himself "too lazy to look one up" when two profound, original thoughts arose in his mind. Although there hadn't been feedback from the other quotes he had printed each week, these two quotes--absent of attributions--generated great interest. Everyone wanted to know the author or works of the last two quotes--and Patrick happily ignored them, pleased that he created a little mystery for once in his life. Each week, he added more of the original quotes that seemed to come forth when he intended them. As the months passed, the weekly newsletter disappeared---replaced with daily postings of these profound quotes he calls "Sundrops". Every morning, Patrick quiets himself and prays, intending that words will flow through him that will positively affect at least one person. After years of positive feedback--including a doctor who gave the quotes to patients and loved them so much he suggested publication--a collection of these reflective passages are assembled in the book Sundrops on Life: A Book of Good Thoughts. Spanning themes of worry, hope, health, strength, relationships, faith, anger, children and more, Sundrops for Life is replete with sagacious wisdom and unusual perspectives. Here are but a few of my favorite quotes from this fantastic book: * The person who drives straight ahead when the road turns is never praised for having a determined will. * Serenity is the ability to see the sunrise as the gift-wrapping on a precious new day instead of seeing it as the flash from a starter's gun. * Those people that we like, we will always find a way to excuse them. Those people we do not like, we will always find a way to accuse them. * Every single flower and plant that you see, at some time, disregarded the weight and the darkness upon them and kept going until they broke through. * Benevolent or malevolent is a judgment only from our perspective. The same wave that frightens a fisherman thrills a surfer. * If you're not enjoying the ride, grabbing the brass ring won't change a thing. * Sometimes it's not the weight of the world that you feel on your shoulders but the hands of heaven trying to get you to sit down and rest awhile. * It is laughable that we live like a child in a car seat holding on tightly to a small plastic steering wheel and seriously believing that we are directing the car. * Don't close your eyes and accuse the world of being dark. * Sometimes it takes more strength to stop climbing than continue. * Irritation is a signal to look inside for imbalance and not a signal to look outside for a target. If you love quotes, Sundrops on Life is a treasure trove. If you seek inspiration, this book serves as a bright lamp in a dark room. If your soul craves wisdom, it will find nourishment through Patrick's luminous Sundrops.

A primer for taking control of your life.

If you find self-help books to be rediculously long-winded and demoralizing, then Sundrops on Life is the book for you. It offers simple observations for living, without advice or judgments. It is about the journey, not the destination. When you get down to it, the only person you truly have control over in life is yourself. So the solution to anxiety, worry, anger, despair, and a host of other psychological ills, is to faithfully work on the way you judge, evalute, and react to each person and thing in your daily drama. That is where Sundrops on Life has been a big help to me. I keep this Sundrop on my website, where it has helped me keep perspective through the years: "Make a list of everything that bothers you. Look at it one year from now and after you stop laughing, change." I am grateful that Patrick McBride's wisdom is available in this book. Don't miss an opportunity to read it, then buy a copy for a friend.

A Wonderful Way to Brighten the World...and Your View of It

Sundrops are just that...little sparks of brilliance that nourish the soul and reshape your perspective. Whatever your place in life, there is something to be learned and gained from every Sundrop Mr. McBride has written. The book is a great gift idea if you're looking to brighten someone's world...including your own!
