That is the sensation I got when I read this book, for a moment I felt I heard my grandfather telling stories about his past, except that he was a movie star. It is a natural feeling, because Jean-Pierre Aumont was 75 years old when he wrote this autobiography. A lot of people asked me where they could get information in English about Maria Montez, and I always recommend this book, because Aumont was her second and last husband. As the title suggested it, he did not hide anything, he relates the "sunny" times where he becomes an actor, the joy of his first marriage, the happiness of seeing his first child, the luck of finding real friends and the occasional shadows in those sunny times: the death of his mother, the horrors of War World II, the death of his first wife, the death of his best friend. But slowly the Sun came back again. Falling in love, again. Getting married again. Having children again, reconstructing his life, feeling every now or then the spirits of his mother and his first wife. My favorite parts as a fan of classic films are his encounters and stories with people like Hedy Lamarr, Gregory Peck, Ginger Rogers, Marlene Dietrich and many others. If you have a friend who likes classic films as me, trust me, it will be a great present.
