Summoner

Lady Angeline Delgado is caught in a nightmare that she can't seem to wake up from. First her father has given her to his lord and then a sadistic underling of a rival lord kidnaps her. The things that she has had to endure are just the beginning from what she can understand. Having to rest, their party has traveled to Shroudskull, a keep that is held by Shadowclaw. Shadowclaw is a summoner. Lady Angeline doesn't know a lot about summoners but she does know that pain is all that he has known. If she is every to get away and gain the freedom Lady Angeline, craves then she is going to have to seduce her captor - but can a summoner even experience pleasure? Summoner is a story of a young woman who is thrust into the darker part of life and exposed to rough BDSM just because she is a woman. Lady Angeline learns some of the nastier facts of sex after being kidnapped while traveling to the lord she has been promised to. Shadowclaw has been trained since birth to be a summoner through pain and isn't sure about the pleasures that Lady Angeline talks of. Lady Angeline knows that she should find Shadowclaw disturbing, not intriguing as she does. I followed the pain and suffering that Lady Angeline suffered first and then the aspects of discovery and passion. If you enjoy the darker side of romance and love historical, then Summoner should be on your wish list. I will say some readers may be disturbed by some of the aspects discussed and related in this book- especially in the beginning Jo reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Good Dark Fantasy & Romance

The Summoner turned out to be a delightful surprise for me. I was somewhat intrigued with the concept that Shadowclaw receives pleasure from pain and the cover art really made me buy this book. The tale revolves around a kidnapped woman who is seeking freedom by attempting to seduce Shadowclaw who is making sure she doesn't escape. This is one of those stories where I actually liked the leading male Shadowclaw much more than the heroine, who was so naive about obvious situations. However, that didn't detract from the plot which is filled with lots of interesting twists and turns and surprising revelations about Shadowclaw. The only thing that would have made this book even better in my opinion was if I could have read some of the story from Shadowclaw's perspective as he had so many complex issues. Overall, this was a very good read and the ending was perfect.

Good Book

I enjoyed this book. Interesting plot and the characters, elements of fantasy and magic and of course lots of sexy scenes. The only thing that bothered me is the name of the heroine. I know it's kind of petty but I just couldn't get passed it. We don't know exactly when this story takes place. Since there are lords, castles and warriors let's assume it is medieval times. So if there are characters named Shadowclaw and Darkraider then why oh WHY is there a woman with the last name of Delgado?? Other than that I thought it was a very good read.

5 stars for the cover alone

4 1/2 for the actual story. Overall this book was really good, it had a storyline, a great hero, a heroine that was likeable if not a bit obtuse, and was not so filled with sex that it took away from the story. (Although there is enough in it)I do have a slight complaint that there were several editing mistakes but not enough to take away from the book. I enjpyed this story, loved the cover and plan to put it on my keeper shelf. I do hope N. Delonpre puts out more books for me to try.
