In the bestselling tradition of T.R. Pearson, Larry McMurtry, and Olive Ann Burns, Fleming presents a haunting and bittersweet novel of lost innocence set during the drought years of 1950s Texas. Extraordinary . . . a wonderful find.--Houston Post.

Wonderful Journey to Youth
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
After leaving Texas for the midwest, I found myself reading this work again. It takes me back to the summers living in Seguin, Texas and understanding what it means to be a spirited youth. It will take any person to the days of summer when life was carefree and there was so much to discover. This has inspired to continue my writing, not only because I love the book, but Mr. Fleming was the one who got me writing in the first place in high school. Another thankful alumni!
A great story!

This book is a masterpiece of American story telling. Fleming draws on his experience as a teacher, a frontiersman, and an adventurer to tell the story of two young friends on a summer of discovery. Be careful to catch all of the elements of classical mythology in this wonderful novel. It is one of my very favorites! If you can get your hands on this book, by all means, do it! I take pride in the fact that I am one of the lucky readers of this book; but I am even more proud of the fact that I attended Mr. Fleming's Senior High School Mythology class in Seguin, TX. Happy reading all!
