Great activities for summer

Great 2 pages a day activities, spend 15-20 minutes with your kid and enjoy learning, together!

Even my Eye-Rolling Tween is Willing to Give it a Try

When my 5th grade daughter saw this on the table she asked, "Do I have to do this?" I told her I thought it would be a good idea, and asked her to look it over. She immediately saw the motivational calendar at the front of the book which said, "My parents and I decided that if I complete 15 summer bridge activities and read ___ minutes a day my incentive/reward will be: " "Reward? I get a reward?" she asked. I would not have believe how quickly that little incentive would change her attitude about this workbook. She was immediately on board. The page has a nice checklist for her to color in a star for each activity page she completes, and a book for each time she reads the allotted amount. There are two other sections with similar pages, which I like, because the goal of filling in 50 stars is not seen as attainable. The first two sections deal with review, and the third section is designed to be an introduction to the coming year. We looked through the Summer Bridge Activities: 5th to 6th Grade, and I found it be on target as far as what Amanda learned this year in math, grammar, and geography. There are some things that she didn't cover, such as biology (circulatory and digestive systems and more), but this would be a fun activity for some kids to research so that they could fill out the worksheet. I like to take those extended summer hours to focus on responsibilities, behaviors and that type of thing. Summer Bridge Activities has that covered too. The back has pages (with activities) devoted to character traits such as Responsibility, Gratitude, Manners and more. This was my first experience with the Summer Bridge Activities from Carson-Dellosa, but I find myself asking, "Where have you been all my life?" I love the colorful pages, the accurate and challenging content, and the motivational calendar.

Great book!

We've used these in the summer for our two boys for the past couple years and last year my older son was the ONLY kid in his class who saw his standardized testing scores IMPROVE from the spring to the fall. I'm sure this wouldn't have been the case had he not done this workbook over the summer. In addition, the way these books are arranged is excellent, and we particularly like the way the book is broken up into groups of days (e.g., 15 days), which gives them nice intermediate goals toward which they can work. I would highly recommend this book to help your kids retain what they learned during the school year!

wonderful summer practice book

I think this workbook is great for covering all the subjects needed for the coming year. Some of the work is review which is good for retention over the summer but can be boring for quicker learners.

Super book!

I am so impressed with this series. I have five kids, four of which will be in school this year. My kindergartener-to-be loves doing the book just like his older brothers. My second-grader-to-be is right on track with his bridge book--it's definitely keeping it fresh and teaching him at the same time. Both boys are very independent in their bridge books. My [...] balks at the book sometimes saying it is too hard, but he tends to be a child requiring constant adult interaction with school. He does well with it but needs to review the directions a few times. Overall I think this is a must for any parent whose children are home over the summer and off from school. I like the length of the lessons--typically 2 pages, as well as the way it is divided. It is broken into 3 sessions--15 days, 20 days and then 15 days--with the option for children to earn a reward after each session. This is what geared my [...]to be last year--he was so proud when he earned a movie! Unfortuntely, the series stops at [...]bridge, but we're making due! Great product from Carson Delarosa!

Summer Studies = Summer Fun

My daughter and I have used this series for five years now. The older she gets the more she enjoys her summer studies. This book is great! It is always broken down into three sections and has reward charts to track progress. We also love the Summer Reading List in the book, and look the books up at our local library. I really enjoy the Better Bodies Better Behavior section and the flash cards as well. Each day's work and reading takes less than an hour. Definately worth the money, get it every year!
