Don't Miss Out On This One

Suddenly You is about how a woman named Cady Winters goes home to help take care of her dying grandmother and ends up falling in love with Keren Bailey, the grandmother's emotionally damaged physician. It is hard for me to describe the sheer joy, frustration, grief and inner struggle I endured while I read this book. The beautiful cover drew me in and I thought it would be an ordinary romance with boy and girl meeting, boy and girl have a fallout, then boy and girl makeup and live happily ever after. This book is better than the average romance. The characters are smart and sharply drawn but they still have enough surprises in them to make them unpredictable, and that keeps them interesting. The love story between Keren, an emotionally bereft doctor, and Cady, a live-wire reporter, occurs naturally. It's hate at first sight that evolves into true love. I loved the way author Crystal Hubbard builds their relationship, giving them time to develop emotional intimacy to match their ultimate physical intimacy. Ms. Hubbard's love scenes are steamy and intense without being nasty, and I liked that. Characters like Renyatta Runyon, Cady's sisters, Dr. Randall, and even Albert Raines, who is barely mentioned, add incredible depth and texture to the book. This book is so alive it seemed to breath with the aromas and colors of the Winters family and the city of St. Louis. This book brought out so many feelings in me. By the end of it, I felt so full of the enjoyment of life and grateful for all the people I loved and that loved me. This book had an unbelievable impact on me. When the grandmother died, I cried my eyes raw because I felt like I'd really lost one of my family members. Teh back of the book says that letting go of someone you love is just as important as holding on, and that is truly the lesson of Suddenly You. This book means so much to me because it's a very good story and it holds a very good lesson for people like me, who have lost a loved one. This book is beautiful in every way and it will always be special to me. I applaud Ms. Hubbard's first novel.

Really hit home

I started this book and could not put it down because it is so good. Suddenly You is a romance novel with so much more than just romance. Zacadia "Cady" Winters and Dr. Keren Bailey are the most opposite of opposites. She's fire and noise and he's cold and detached. From their first moment together, which Ms. Hubbard created so realistically, Cady starts a process of renewal in Keren. Keren lost his parents at a very young age but Cady has a big loving family. Keren can't help but to be attracted to the light and love Cady has for the people she loves. Cady's grandmother Claire's sickness is what brings Cady into Keren's life and its what brings them together, especially after Claire passes away. Ms. Hubbard handled the grandmother's death and the family's reaction to it so perfectly. It was sad but there was warmth and humor to it, so even when I was crying my eyes out I could still laugh at some of the other things going on. Suddenly You is a jubilant story of how love is medicine for the heart, and how you have to hold on to people you love and let go of other people you love when it's their time to go. I love this book and I'm going to hold on to it!

Believe the hype!

Zacadia "Cady" Winters is faced with the toughest challenge of her life, the death of her grandmother. She doesn't face it alone because she has Dr. Keren Bailey, a fine brother who doesn't know what hit him when he first met Cady. This story of finding and accepting love in the midst of loss unfolds beautifully and realistically. All readers can identify with Cady and her family, and the spectrum of African American life and love is depicted perfectly with the right touches of humor and sentimentality. This is a very, very excellent book that is as much women's fiction as romance.

Fabulous and Fresh!

Crystal Hubbard's Suddenly You is what romance should be about: life, love, passion, humor, class and brains. Cady Winters is a dynamic heroine who lives life large. She loves selfishly, even when it comes to Dr. Keren Bailey, the man who broke her heart before they ever even met by telling her that her grandmother is dying of cancer. Cady's love for her grandmother is so strong, she refuses to accept the diagnosis and she does everything in her power to hold on to her grandmother. Keren had to grow up without his parents, who he lost to cancer, so he doesn't seem to understand how Cady can hold on to hope when there isn't any. Once Cady's sparkling personality shines on Keren and he starts to fall in love with her, he starts to have faith in Cady's love for her grandmother. Even though she's not well, Cady's grandmother (Claire) does what she can to make sure that Keren and Cady end up together. I especially liked Cady because she's the kind of person who actually does the things most of us just wish we could do. I also liked the relationships she has with the other people in the book, especially her sisters. It is very genuine, especially when they all argue the way sisters do. This book leaves you feeling so happy to have met Cady and Keren and also makes you want to read more of Crystal Hubbard's books. She has the gift of making you feel like you're a part of the character's lives.

Sparkling Crystal

Suddenly You is book about Cady Winters, a newspaper reporter who has to suddenly go home to St. Louis to be with her dying grandmother. In the time she's there, Cady takes care of her grandmother and the whole cancer ward and slowly but surely, she starts to have feelings for Keren Bailey, her grandmother's doctor. Cady and Keren hate each other at frist because Keren just doesn't understand how deeply the grandmother's illness is affecting Cady. But being around Cady is like therapy for Keren. He's like a shriveled up wilted weed who gains a new lease on life when he gives himself the chance to bask in Cady's light. But just when Keren starts to grow, Cady starts to weaken as her grandmother's illness progresses. This book grabbed me from the first page, and it only got better. The best part is when the grandmother passes. It's so emotional and beautiful. The funny thing is that it's still very humorous, and I was laughing while I was crying at some of the things. I also liked the ending which was so funny I had to read it twice. Cady and Keren are one of the best romantic couples I've read in a long time and I've never read a story like this one. No romance library is complete without Suddenly You. Crystal Hubbard's writing sparkles with wit and the dialogue between Cady and Keren is very, very good. I really am looking froward to reading more of her books.
