Georgina Kincaid has been a bad, bad succubus. . .

. . .which should be a good thing. But lately, thanks to her foul mood over breaking up with bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, she's been so wicked that Seattle's ?ber-demon Jerome, decides to outsource Georgina to a rival--and have her spy for him in the process.

Being exiled to the frozen north--okay, Vancouver--and leaving Seth in the cozy clutches of his new girlfriend is...

Hell's around the corner...

And then some. If you ask the local succubus of Seattle, Hell on earth is an understatement. Really, just ask her friends. Even the Archangel, Carter has his two cents about the turn in her life. So when Georgie's attitude overhaul gets to be too much for not only her understanding friends, but her boss, Jerome, she knows she's pushed it too far. That is, up north. To Vancouver, BC. As in Canada, and much to her everlasting horror, she is being outsourced to deal with a very lame and very generic evil wannabes, the Army of Darkness. Whatever the political machinations brewing between Jerome and the local archdemon, Cedric, Georgie just wants to earn her good graces back with Jerome. And doesn't quite manage it. Meanwhile, back in the world of the mundane and human, Georgie is trying to make things work with Dante, the damaged and the once power-hungry psychic that none of her friends like, and is constantly bombarded with sights of what she has lost with Seth--watching her best friend and ex-soul mate be something, have something that she knows she can never have. A family, children, a husband, those things which have haunted her since she took her evil job and the vivid dreams of Nyx. But like all things, there is that lull before the storm, and without warning, Jerome is summoned, leaving all of Seattle's lesser immortals in stasis, still immortal but human-like, and utterly powerless. Well, except for our gal Georgie. Powerless? Nah. She never could say no to trouble and danger. Especially when she realizes that no one else will look for Jerome. But also, that Seth is no longer in danger of her succubus powers, just their infatuation with one another. But at what cost? I can't even begin to say how fantastic this book was. There were very few things that I had issues with and the whole of the book more than made up for it. Georgina's storyline of self-discovery as an immortal facing mortality (Seth's) is so palpable, intense and complicated, but executed so beautifully by Mead, it's like you opened up a window into someone's life and have a front row seat. It's that vivid, the emotional and psychological turmoil of not just Georgie's, but all the character's. For some people, the emotional entanglement was too much--but if this were real life, it would be that complicated. I appreciate that Mead gives us, the reader, some credit for not only expecting but needing to see that Georgie is not some 2-D typical rendering of female lead. She's flawed, horribly so at times, and while her behavior at times seemed callous and cold to some, to me, it was inevitable and realistic. Mead's great skills still makes Georgie human (you know what I mean) in the struggles with morality and the topsy-turvy confusion of the consequences of actions and behaviors (not to mention the emotional ones). She's still very much relatable and you want her to succeed. She's not invincible, but she's trying to survive like everyone else, become more, trying to learn

Not many happy moments here. It's heartbreaking and feels so real.

In Georgina's fourth outing Mead continues the heartrending tone that initiated by it's predecessor, Succubus Dreams. Our heroine is deep in a funk and from page one it seems like the hits just keep coming for her. Don't take that as a negative though. This installment provides everything that readers have come to expect and love from Mead, and some. Heat doesn't lack for any of the love, passion, mystery and action that made the first three novels so gripping. But for each bit of those elements, the pain is ratcheted up about three times more. With the brief reprieve from her soul-sucking abilities, Georgina is faced with the opportunity to partake of everything we've seen her long for - only it may be too little, too late. Bittersweet the novel may be, it's pervasive sadness only lends to make the story that much more beautiful. The mystery part of the plot blends in well with the romance here too. It's evenly paced and well thought out. It also serves as mechanism to better illustrate the complexity of each player involved in the story. Major characters and bit players alike are all very nuanced and add to the impression that, despite this being a story about the preternatural, this is all very real. I know it sounds cliche but I laughed, I cried. I definitely cried. Consequences seems to be the theme of this one. Almost every party involved is faced with a decision of their own to make, and for each one the outcome is felt by all. There are a few surprises in-store and, for those concerned, the issues of Georgina's contract and her prophetic dreams from Nyx are each addressed. Fans, you won't be disappointed. Heartbroken sure, but in that respect you're no better off than Georgina.

Continues to be great

*minor spoilers if you haven't read any of this series, otherwise if you're up to date(with the 3rd book), its fine* Awaiting the next Georgina Kincaid book was agonizing, but finally its here and it was worth the wait. Georgina finds herself going downhill in the morality department thanks to her boyfriend Dante who is a con of sorts. Her friends thinks she can do better, but then she'd be draining life of someone she cares about which she swears she will not do. Then her archdemon, Jerome disappears and the entire Seattle area minor immortals lose their abilities. This leads to her and her ex-boyfriend Seth wanting to do what they couldnt before...and on top of it she has to find Jerome whereever he went. Richelle Mead does an excellent job of making you care about every person in her book, not ust the the main characters. I am a character driven reader and i love when i can feel how a character is feeling. Smile when they are happy and frown when they are sad. That to me is what makes an excellent book. No random bander or actions that are not true to the characters here. The book leaves off on a sad note but what do you expect when you're a succubus trying to find true love? however it doesnt spoil it from being a great addition to the series. this is one of my favorite series and i cant wait for the next installment. Richelle Mead is an amazing author and if you like any of her books you have to read the other series she writes. i love them all.

Another excellent entry in the Georgina Kincaid series

This is the fourth in the Georgina Kincaid series. She is a succubus, prowling the streets of Seattle, sucking the life out of men with her intimacies with them. This story builds on the three prior novels, reintroducing characters like Roman (her relationship with him in an earlier work ended badly, to put it mildly). The major plot twist here is that the boss (a demon, Jerome) in the Seattle region disappears. The power of immortals (vampires, imps, and succubae) also disappears. They are immortal, but do not have their powers. If Jerome can't be found, then a new boss will need to be selected. Part of the driving force of this book is the dynamics of those who want to take over; indeed, ambition has led to something of a coup d'état. Georgina, in an improbable alliance with her former boyfriend, Seth Mortenson (the dilemma that they faced--they could not be intimate without her slowly draining him of his life force), sets out to find Jerome. Adding to the dynamics of the work is that after their breakup, Seth began dating one of Georgina's best friends, Maddie (you need a scorecard to keep the players straight if you haven't read earlier works in this series; one piece of advice--read some of the earlier volumes to understand context). There are the poignant moments between Seth and Georgina; now, they can be intimate without damage to him as she has lost her powers. But--there is also the knowledge that this is only for the short term and that they are both betraying Maddie. The book ends with some unresolved tensions that promise to animate future volumes in this series. All in all, another fine entry in the series by Richelle Mead.

AWESOME!!!

Great series! RM has done it again, fantastic work. Great story, w/intrigue, action, emotional, romance and sadness. I was sad but it wasn't as heartbreaking as her previous book. I just wish in her next book the heroine gets treated better.
