Offers instructions in choosing and using equipment, selecting and posing models, composing, lighting techniques for indoors and out, setting up a studio, and more. This description may be from another edition of this product.
My main fascination with photography recently has been lighting, so before reading this book I decided to read "Lighting for Glamour Photography". I almost wish I had read this one first since it covers glamour lighting in great detail, plus a whole lot of other stuff. I just finished reading it today, so it's still sinking in, but if you plan on taking beautiful pictures of women and taking it seriously, you pretty much have to read this book. It's a career's worth of experience in an easy to read book. I've got to say though that some of the 80's style pictures are pretty laughable, especially the 80's sunglasses! Ironically, the author mentions how ludicrous things like sunglasses look when they go out of style!
A great reference source!

I've owned John Kelly's book now for the past year, along with a dozen other glamour photography books. I find myself constantly referring back to John's book for useful ideas on posing, lighting and other practical tips. His book successfully addresses glamour photography from the photographer's point of view. He stays away from photographic recipes and instead focuses on sharing the skills to allow the creative mind to develop their own styles and recipes. The photography within is top notch and the models are all gorgeous - no second string here. The book is broken into three main sections: the model, outdoor locations, and indoor locations. My favorite section is his in-depth coverage of the model, body types, basic makeup, and how to work with models on a professional level. I found that his outdoor location section to be excellent as well, but the indoor studio is a bit dated - as to be expected considering the date of publishing. Still, though this book is now sixteen years old, it is one of the best on the market.
I love this book!!!

The articles are very informative. The writing style is very clear and readable even for the amatures. The pictures of the ladies are very gogerous and fit very well with the accompanying texts. Lots and lots of clues on how to use lighting and camera angles in this book.
Still the best...

This book will answer many questions for you. The information is dated and could use an update on some of the technical items, but most of these items are easy to update yourself with a little simple research ( things like film and various camera attachments etc). This book has remained a favorite of mine, John is very instinctual in his shooting style, but is still technical enough give the reader a well rounded view of glamour photography. The overall content is well laid out and logical. There is something here for anyone interested in this type of photography. If you are looking for just one book to assist you in developing your glamour style, I would consider this the book to use.
Among the best insructional guides for the beginner

When I decided to become a professional fashion, and celebrity photographer, this was the first book I bought. It was a very wise buy! John Kelly gives you the straight-forward, practical advice to get started right away. Although John's work is very much like what graces the pages of Playboy Magazine, his advice will be of great help to any photographer who must work with models. His Technical advice will also be useful to anyone who shoots the 35mm camera with color film, which encompasses nearly everyone! The images in this book are of beautiful women, exposing their lovely charms in tasteful, exotic, and erotic ways! A very good book to start with.
