The discussion of the scientific method was almost entirely guided by the example of classical physics. The reason for this lies mainly in the fact that certain aspects of the scientific method can be illustrated very easily by examples from that field, and partly lies in the belief that, since physics is the most highly developed of all the empirical sciences, it must be imitated by all other sciences. Whatever the truth contained in this second consideration, it must not however make us lose sight of the possibility that some of the characteristic procedures of physics may not be universally applicable, and that the procedure of some of the other sciences, "natural" or " social, may differ from those of physics, not because they are less advanced, but because the situation in their fields differs significantly from those of physics. The discussion of the scientific method was almost entirely guided by the example of classical physics.
