A Dallas bank teller receives the offer of a life time: marriage to a billionaire. The terms: she must agree to marry him without seeing him first. The first edition was selected as one of 1994's top novels by Christianity Today.
"Streiker's Bride" was a unique, fun, and intriguing romance. I quickly became immersed in this fast-paced story. The characters were engaging and complex, and I cared what happened to them. The characters dealt with realistic struggles, and the plot wasn't predictable. The novel is a bit like "The Chronicles of Narnia" in that there's a deeper layer or meaning to the story. There's no religious talk since the novel isn't overtly Christian. A non-Christian could read the novel and assume it's a clean, secular romance (though part of the ending might seem a little improbable without the subtext). A Christian can read it and see thought-provoking hints of how Fletcher's and Adair's romance reflects Christ wooing us and becoming our bridegroom. There was no bad language. There was no explicit sex. Overall, I'd highly recommend this well-written, clean novel. Review by Debbie from Genre Reviews (genrereviews. blogspot. com)
A Divine Romance

When I read this book, I didn't read the reviews, so I was unaware that it was an allegory. As I read it, my skeptical side kept saying "This unrealistic. Adair has her good points, but she self-centered, fickle, aimless, dense, boring and materialistic. What would make this great guy with high ideals choose her?" I finished the book feeling that it was a story that couldn't possibly happen in real life. I thought I must have missed something. I skimmed over it again to find out what redeeming qualities Adair had to make FS love her and really couldn't find anything. FS simply decided she belonged to him and that was it. To me, this was quite dissatisfying. People don't just love someone for no good reason. As I turned over the book, my eye caught the review referring to the book as an allegory. All at once, it became clear. I was Adair and God chose me, not for my wonderful personality and character, but because I belonged to him. I don't know if I have ever been so forcibly struck by the relative position between me and God and I thank the author for being the God's instrument in this revelation.

I was scanning a huge bookstore, searching for bargains...and there it was. Streiker's Bride. I had never heard of it before, but when i read the synopsis on the back, I was intrigued...and it was clearanced! Immediately I began to read it and was pulled into the character Adair...the story begins leaving you wondering what will happen next and it remains that way throughout the entire story. 12:30 in the morning and well into the book, I found I could not put it down (and bookreading at night usually puts me to sleep!). I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning! I am currently looking for the other books in this great saga. This is a MUST read!

As a teenager growing up at a Christian school, I find books are hard to find in the school libary, because of careful screening by the school broad. The books they choose are rather boring. But when I picked up the copy of Strieker's bride I was so intregied. This book is so wonderful!! The continuing books are wonderful seguels too.
Exciting, subtle, and sweet story of a divine romance!

I read this book, and found it powerfully compelling. It presents a suprising offer of marriage from a mysterious young billionaire to a cheerful, bright young woman who works as a teller in one of his banks. The billionaire wants to marry her, and says he knows all about her, and loves her. But she must decide whether to marry him before she can see his face! This story works remarkably well on two levels, first, as a very sensible yet sensitive woman of today ponders her choice, and second, as a vivid allegory for the real and personal love of Christ for His Church. As I read this, I found myself caught by both levels, and fascinated by the intricate interweaving. I heartilly recommend this, both to non-Christians who may have a vague or distant view of the love of God, and also to Christians who may have a reaction to God as a harsh, demanding taskmaster, instead of a tender, passionate lover.
