'Street Life' is the semi-autobiographical story of Jihad, a young man raised by the Atlanta streets to become a notorious drug dealer. After seven years in prison his transformation is complete. This is the story of his rise, fall and salvation.
I had the pleasure of hearing Jihad read from his book "Street Life" at a book club gathering in Oakland, CA. The reading was so enthralling that I had to purchase his book. I was not disappointed. I finished it in a weekend. As I read it, it reminded me of Sistah Souljah's "Coldest Winter Ever." Most definitely, elements of street life are glamorized in our society. But, Jihad keeps it extremely real. The good and the bad. The money and the mayhem. The life and the loss. His book is not only for those hardheaded kids who think that life in the streets is their destiny, but also for those kids who think that they are better than their peers. It's a reality check for us all.

Street Life is a positive book for young and old alike. People who have been through bad times as well as people who are going through the struggle will benifit from this. This book is truley encouraging for young brothers and sisters who don't belive there is hope for a brighter futur. I have read it twice just to remind me that I have a son that may go in any direction. When he is of age, Street Life will be on my top ten list as required readings. I can tell that the author put his heart and soul into the chapters. He has written this in a way that is clear and cut to the ends and outs of many children growing up in the world today. I recommend this as a handbook to anyone caught up in the struggle.

It's about time. WOW. Not since Manchild in the Promise Land have I read anything that remotely comes close to Streetlife. This is the best book I've ever read. And the story inspired me to want more and do more, cause if this brotha overcame what he did, then I feel that I can do anything. This book is the best book I've ever read, and it should be required reading at every University and high school in the nation. Streetlife is just so real and in your face. If you haven't read this book than you are in for a real treat to say the least.

Brah', thank you so much for giving me something to hand to my children. Lincoln's difficult life steered him towards drugs and hanging in the streets even though he had his mother and Akbar guiding him on the positive. He willingly chose to play the game despite the inevitable consequences and paid the price, WILLINGLY. Gotta give him props, he stood behind what he truly believed in. Which in my eyes, teaches the dark side of taking responsibility. But at what cost. The accident, his first eye opener which crippled him and his jail time, the second eye opener aided in his transformation and gave him a third strike at life. Keep them coming because we have little brothers and sistah's coming into this life everyday who need guidance from not from people who KNEW someone caught out there but from people who LIVED out there.Your sister in Jersey,Stephanie A.
