Very well writen book. A very interesting and enjoyable reading. No pictures, though. But the text is complemented by some draws of the battle scenes and a lot of maps showing troop movements and armies strategies. Slightly biased towards the Union side. Not in the sense of endorsing Union ideas as opposed to the confederates, but rather in the sense of spending a much larger number of pages describing the political and military background of the north, with fewer attention to the south.Recommendable reading.
War and politics combined

What a wonderful book. All the poetic writing of Sandburg in a very informative study of the Lincoln Administration during the Civil War. You will find less details on specific battles but many more details on the politics and behind the scenes characters. You won't want to put this one down. Get to know Lincoln, his Cabinet and his Generals.
