Mary's Touch

This book is a collection of stories that were first broadcast on the Mary's Touch radio program. The stories are from real life--from people who asked our Blessed Mother to intercede for them and then had their prayers answered. The stories aren't filled with supernatural visions, but they include events that are often surprising...and always inspiring. This is Cheri Lomonte's second book, and just as she did for her first book (The Healing Touch of Mary), Cheri first recorded the stories; so, even now--in printed form--they retain the freshness of the storytellers' voices. And yet, these narratives bear the unmistakable mark of our Blessed Mother's gentle touch. For example, Emily Ann talks about the unlikely journey that she and her husband made to the Catholic Church ("I was trying secretly to learn the Rosary because my husband was a Protestant pastor..."). Eric speaks of his daughter, who was born with Down Syndrome ("If I could draw Love, I would draw my baby daughter, Anastasia..."). Gerard speaks about our Blessed Mother's help after he suffered a terrible accident ("As I was coming out of the anesthesia, I could hear the Hail Mary being said..."). And Sherri talks about her faith journey in the face of terminal cancer ("I kept thinking about Simeon helping Jesus carry the Cross. It wasn't so much that Jesus needed help carrying the Cross as it was that Simeon needed to carry it for his own conversion..."). There are eighty-six stories in this very readable book. Some are told by people you may recognize (including Father Daniel Mahan, Eduardo Verástegui, Father Frank Pavone, John Patrick Cardinal Foley, and Mother Nadine Brown), but most are told by everyday people. All of the stories give witness to grace, making it very clear that God acts through our Blessed Mother, bringing comfort in desperate moments and moral clarity in moments of confusion. These stories also make it very clear that our Blessed Mother isn't just for Catholics. She is OUR Blessed Mother, and because her only purpose is to bring us closer to her Son, she is here for everyone who calls upon her in time of need. Stories from Mary's Touch is both hope-filled and inspirational reading. I highly recommend this book!
