Illus. in color. A boy's madcap adventures as he tries to retrieve his bouncing ball are told in "lively rhyming prose. Humorous, repetitious situations will delight children. Recommended."--School Library Journal.
Stop that ball is an hilarious story about a boy that is playing tether ball when all of the sudden, he knocks the ball off and follows it on an adventure all over town. The red ball gets into all kinds of silly trouble with the boy always one step behind. The ending with the little neighbor girl is classic. I have read this book to kids of all ages and we always have a great time. A fantastic story start to finish!!!

My favorite as a kid, now my kids favorite

This book is great, my kids love it. The pictures are expressive and keep their attention as we go through the story. With both my children we followed the same pattern. First as I read the book and go from page to page I say "where's the ball" and the big red ball is easy for them to identify (for a 1 yr old) As they grow older and we continue to read the book I have them identify the dog, then the boy then the girl then the trucks, bicycle etc. It makes the book interactive for them and they are excited when I pull it from the stack of books.
Exciting adventure that will encourage your child to read.

This book is narrated by a little boy who is enjoying an afternoon at play with his tethered big red ball. As happens any time a child is at play, something goes wrong that leads to a great and wonderful adventure. The string breaks, the ball gets loose, and the little boy follows it through the town in an effort to retrieve it. After a number of exciting events, it is finally blasted through the sky and lands in his own backyard. He arrives home to find that someone has already re-tethered it, so he immediately resumes an afternoon of play with his big red ball. But once again, the ball gets loose, and the adventure starts anew as the book ends. My children found this absolutely delightful, and they read it over and over as though the story has no ending. This book is very motivating, as well as entertaining for children and parents. There are also two minor characters in the book that add a great deal to the fun. The first is the boy's dog, whose expressions intensify the humor and action of the book. The second is a little girl who stands at the boy's fence watching him play. She appears almost hidden on most every page, and is once again present when the little boy arrives home to find his ball mysteriously tethered. Thought provoking and great fun. You and your children will love this book!
