for a child to read

It is okay but not what I had thought it was..I am in a reading program for my church and need adult books

Sensitive and thoughtful treatment of the subject of Alzheimer's

I got this book at the library thinking it was about a girl's relationship with her grandmother. As I read it to her, I realized that the book deals with the progression of her grandmother's Alzheimer's disease. I am not one to cry easily, but this book really moved me to tears. It is extremely sensitive and thoughtful with how the parents explain the disease to their daughter and the things that they help her to do to maintain a relationship with her and to help the grandmother maintain her dignity.

grandmothers need love too

this book is recommended for the children at my church. Almost all of the children have grandparents in the church and some are already facing this problem. It was a lovely book.

poignant view of alzheimer's

My daughter's school librarian sent this book home when I asked for a book to help my daughter understand the permanence of this condition. The book was wonderful - we were able to laugh (grandma puts her shoes in the fridge) and even when the grandma moved to a nursing home, the story was not scary. The focus was on loving grandma just the way she was and helping grandma feel loved, even if she didn't remember.

Ideal for introducing young children to the concept of Alzheimer's and forms of dementia

Still My Grandma is a children's picturebook about the bond between granddaughter Camille and her loving Grandmother. Camille's grandma has Alzheimer's disease, which makes forget Camille's name or her do other strange things sometimes. Even though Grandma has to move out of her house and nurses have to help care for her, Camille finds ways to carry on their special traditions. The simple, mauve-themed illustrations balance this heartwarming read-aloud story, ideal for introducing young children to the concept of Alzheimer's and forms of dementia that can afflict elderly loved ones.
