Clearly written grieving process book for the average person

"Steve" is a concise book that takes the average person through the grieving process in a straight forward manner. Told through the thoughts of the parents, the grieving process is taken out of the dry pages of textbooks and given heart. Be prepared to grieve with the parents as you feel their pain, but also travel with them to the acceptance stage. It's a chathartic experience and well worth the time spent with Mr. & Mrs. Creel. Interestingly when I finished the book, I knew Steve and felt the loss of a wonderful teenager.
Healing at Our Own Pace!

Finally a realistic account of what it is like to heal! If you're tired of feeling like you have to grieve and move on with your life you have to read this book. "Steve" makes the reader feel like pain and suffering and sadness are real, valid emotions that grieving individuals should be allowed to process. It expresses that time can't heal all wounds, we need to actively work on our emotional traumas. Time is only the first step in healing and many of us don't even allow ourselves that! The personal accounts of the mother and father are so powerful I cried. A positive and clear picture of the victim is painted so that the reader genuinely identifies with him and his community even if the reader has never had a family member die. The reference list of support groups in the back of the book is an excellent idea. I also appreciated the beautiful drawings and photos of Steve. They helped me visualize his tenderness. This book, although extremely personal to one family, can help anyone working through their own grieving process. I highly recommend it!
The paradox gives me chills, I loved it !!!

There aren't many books written on death that allows some one to just share their thoughts and feelings, to express their anger with out being told "how" and to let you read that some one else "feels" how you do. I think it is an excellent book for parents and for teens. Its hard to understand why one so young has died, but its even harder to accept it. Ms. Upczak has captured those thoughts and feelings and put them into print to let you know that you aren't alone. Through "fate" or "destiny", synchronicity will touch your soul. I highly recommend it for anyone who has suffered a loss or death of a loved one.
