Popular Photography's advice columnist Steve Sint shares some of the secrets that helped make him a success. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I bought this book based on excellent reviews given to Mr. Sint's book on Wedding Photography (which I ordered as well). My expectations that "101 Tips" would include useful things for photographers at all levels were fully met. Sint includes many tips for the novice with the autofocus point-and-click camera right on up to the pro who is shopping for vintage Hasselblad equipment. Many tips cost little or nothing or provide a "hundred dollar solution" for fifty cents or less.As I read the various sections on technique (exposure control, prefocusing, preproduction and planning) I thought of whole rolls of films wasted because I didn't understand one rule; for example, that the full moon is frontally lit be the sun and thus obeys the "sunny day F/16 rule".I have three tips concerning this book. First, buy it. You'll get your money back in a few rolls of correctly shot film. Second, be aware that the wide range of expertise levels addressed therein means that some tips are either way above your head or completely beneath you. That leads me to tip three: pick a couple of pointers and make them yours. Don't try to incorporate a whole pile of Mr. Sint's time-proven advice at your next photo event. Just get a little better on the next roll and plan on flipping through the book again.
