great book for MTs

I use my Med/Surg word book constantly. I could not do my job without it.

Stedman's Books

These books are a must to your collection if you need a constant reference source.

A must for operative notes

If you do operative notes, this reference is a must. I use this book more than any other word book.

An updated classic

A review on this page refers to this book as being "outdated." Well, that reviewer needs the latest edition, obviously. Stedman's puts out a new edition of each of its books every three years or so, and I get the feeling the other reviewer was looking at a 1998 edition. Well, here's the latest for 2004.As with all of Stedman's medical word books, this one has several hundred pages of cross-referenced terms for almost any kind of medical and surgical equipment, with listings under company name, general type of equipment, and specialty use of said equipment. For example, in my 2001 edition "Promex biopsy needle" is found under P and N, while B contains an entry for biopsy needle. This is golden. The one reservation I have with this particular one of the Stedman's publications is that the field of equipment manufacturing seems to be the fastest-changing there is, and so this one book does indeed become a bit outdated even within the year of its publication. A good Google.com search is a necessary component to the MT's adequate use of this book. However, I could not do my job correctly without Stedman's, and this volume has a valuable place in my library as well as any of their specialty books.

Must have for MTs

An absolute must for the transcriptionist typing operative reports. It's also great for general medical transcription for looking up difficult terms such as a Hryntschak catheter. There are thousands of equipment words including eponyms in an easy-to-look-up format. I have many years' experience in the field and still use it every day.
